I didn’t poll my male friends to ask if they were into ‘Sex and the City’. I simply watched it during its HBO run of six seasons (1998-2004). And, with it being on cable, I appreciated the raw and straightforwardness of the characters and the scripts. As I sat down to screen this next ‘chapter’, which is how I viewed the series and the 2008 big screen premiere of the first, I realized that is how I view films that may tagged ‘chick flicks’ (oh how I hate that term!) or ‘date movies’, with a genderless view and relate to characters…
In this next chapter, Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Samantha (Kim Cattrall), Charlotte (Kristin Davis), and Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) have the opportunity to spend time together once again when a perspective new PR client who wants to impress Samantha to manage the PR campaign for his resort complex, arranges for an all expense visit to the resort. Of course Samantha, seeing the opportunity to include her friends on the visit makes it a prerequisite that they come along as well! The four friends are set for the visit and its ultra first class all way, the private jet that takes them to the resort, and upon arrival each with their own limousine. The eye-opener, the resort is in, Abu Dhabi where customs, especially for women, are totally adverse to the standards for women in the western world!
I’ve always been attracted to Samantha’s character. I realize it’s a subconscious alignment that perhaps mirrors my own. At one point I was curious if some women actually think like Samantha but never had the courage to ask any of my female friends if its the case. Throughout the years of its HBO run, I’ve mellowed with the thought and simply enjoyed the series and the two movies. The start of this ‘chapter’ brought the viewers, who may not be aware of the history of the four friends ‘up to speed’ in a very entertaining flashback sequence, and the story moves gingerly along in the style of the series along with a host of celebrity cameos, and yes, ‘Big’ delivers another revelation. If you’re a favorite of the show, you won’t be disappointed. Here’s a revelation, the first two movies were written by a male, who also worked on the series as one of the regular directors, producers, and writers!
Reruns of the show can be seen in syndication daily on numerous channels worldwide and the merchandising has been a phenomenon on a national and worldwide basis.
Starring Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon, Minglie Chen, Chris Noth, David Eigenberg, and Evan Handler.
Written and directed by Michael Patrick King. Warner Bros. Pictures release. Rated R for some strong sexual content and language. Runtime: 146 minutes.

'Pole' your male friends? Wow. I think you meant 'poll' but who knows? Not that there's anything wrong with poling a male friend or two if that's your thing.
