The myths and legends of the Gods, take center stage in this adventure. As a child growing up, the stores of Greek & Roman mythology always fascinated me and I was an avid reader of them. My favorite is Hercules, a hero of superhuman strength and courage who performed twelve tasks or “labors” imposed on him and after his death, was ranked among the gods. And, as a tribute to him, a large cluster of stars in a constellation in the northern hemisphere represents the kneeling figure of Hercules. We’ve often heard the term demigod used. The true meaning refers to the offspring of a god and a mortal human. “Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lighting Thief” is the story of one of these ‘demigods’…
It’s the 21st century, and 12 year old high school student Percy Jackson (Logan Lerman) discovers he's the descendant of a Greek god and sets out on an adventure to settle an on-going battle between them. Zeus' lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect.
Adding to Percy’s woes is the sudden disappearance of his mother. As Percy finds himself caught between angry and battling gods, he and his friends embark on a cross-country adventure to catch the true lightning thief, save his mom, and solve a mystery more powerful than the gods themselves!
Its an entertaining tale with a host of veteran actors who give the story its credibility factor, and if one is not quite up to speed on mythology, which may be the case with younger viewers, the movie educates with out the ‘preaching factor’ over taking the story!
