Christian Bale accepts The Dark Knight's Favorite Movie Award at the People's Choice Awards

The 35th Annual People’s Choice Awards aired last night, January 7th, 2009, revealing the public’s favorite movies, TV shows, and stars for the year 2008. In movies, The Dark Knight was chosen as the Favorite Movie of 2008 over Iron Man and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of The Crystal Skull. Oddly enough, the same winner of the aforementioned category beat out the exact same nominees for Favorite Action Movie of 2008. More wins for Christopher Nolan’s dark sequel to 2005’s Batman Begins included Favorite Cast (over Mamma Mia! And Sex and the City) and Favorite On Screen Matchup (over Shia LaBeouf and Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones and Amy Poehler and Tina Fey in Baby Mama) rewarding Christian Bale and the late Heath Ledger for their on screen chemistry playing arch nemeses Batman and The Joker. Christian Bale as Batman was also tallied as the Favorite Superhero of 2008 over Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man and Will Smith as Hancock. However, Will Smith was still elected both as 2008’s Favorite Male Movie Star and Male Action Star despite the fact that neither of his 2008 films, Seven Pounds or Hancock, being nominated for anything outside the Favorite Superhero category. The Secret Life of Bees was voted Favorite Drama Movie over 21 and Eagle Eye. Bees also beat The Duchess and Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day in the Independent Movie category. 27 Dresses was chosen as the Favorite Comedy over Mamma Mia! and Get Smart. Reese Witherspoon, who starred in 2008’s Four Christmases, was elected Favorite Female Movie Star over Angelina Jolie and Keira Knightly. Angelina Jolie won the Favorite Female Action Star award for both starring in 2008’s Wanted and lending her voice to the animated Kung Fu Panda, which along with The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian lost to WALL-E in the Favorite Family Movie category. Brad Pitt, who starred in both The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Burn After Reading this past year beat both Christian Bale and Mark Wahlberg, who recently starred in both Max Payne and The Happening. for 2008’s Leading Man award. Kate Hudson, who starred in 2008’s Fool’s Gold and My Best Friend’s Girl, was voted Favorite Leading Lady over Anne Hathaway and Queen Latifah.

 

In television, House was chosen as the Favorite TV Drama over CSI and Grey’s Anatomy. Two and a Half Men was voted Favorite TV Comedy of 2008 over Samantha Who? and Ugly Betty. The public selected The Mentalist as the Favorite New TV Drama over Fringe and the 90210 reboot. Gary Unmarried beat out Kath and Kim and Worst Week for the Favorite New TV Comedy award. The Simpsons, currently in it’s 20th season, was elected as 2008’s Favorite Animated Comedy over Family Guy and SouthPark. Heroes was chosen as the people’s Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy show over Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Supernatural.

    Heroes sucks Supernatural should have won.Better storyline better actors,just plain more entertaining.
