Character actors rarely get the girl on screen - or the big, A-list style paychecks.
But sometimes they get their due.
Take J.K. Simmons, the great character actor and erstwhile J. Jonah Jameson from the "Spider-Man" films. The Starz Denver Film Festival just named Simmons as the 2009 Cassavetes Award winner. The actor will receive the award during the upcoming festival which kicks off Friday, Nov. 13.
The actor was most recently seen in "Extract," "New in Town," "Post Grad" and "I Love You, Man," and will be seen shortly in "Up in the Air."
All those films either came out, or are due to arrive in theaters, in 2009.
Hard to believe the actor will have enough time to pick up the award, but it's richly deserved all the same.
