The short programs at the 2012 European Figure Skating Championships kicked off today with the pairs. Russia dominated the event, with its three teams taking the top three spots on the leaderboard going into the free skate. World silver medalists Tatiana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov took a solid six-point lead over Vera Bazarova and Yuri Larionov. Ksenia Stolbova and Fedor Klimov are in third.
