A surprise leader emerged at the 2012 European Figure Skating Championships today after the men's short program. It was not any of the four former champions who are in the field, but it was World bronze medalist Artur Gachinski who is in the lead, besting teammate Evgeni Plushenko for first. The Czech Republic's Tomas Verner is in third.
