Stateline, Nevada - The Montbleu Resort and Casino was overflowing Saturday night for Ultimate Reno Combat 15: King of the Mountain. Rick Collup Promotions brought another action-packed fight card back to Tahoe for the area's only all MMA Cage fighting event. The event included the Ultimate Reno Combat Heavyweight Title Belt as the Main Event.

The night was kicked off by a lightweight match sponsored by Fifth Round Clothing and was between Gregory Ribeira, of Vallejo's Team Asylum and Jose Ayala making his MMA debut for the Reno Academy of Combat. The fight went the full three rounds with unanimous decision going to Ribeira. Ayala's debut fight showed that he will prove to be a tough competitor in the future.

The second bout was another lightweight match between Titus Lawrence of Havok Squad from Sacramento, California and local fighter, Paul Hubbel fighting for the Escobar Fight Team of South Lake Tahoe. Hubbel took Lawrence down early, Lawrence reversed him only to have Hubbel put him in an armbar and force him to TapOuT at 1:08 into round one.

The third fignt was a brutal Welterweight slugfest featuring Corey Carlson of South Lake Tahoe making his MMA debut against Reno Academy of Combat's Josh Noyes. Round one was a brawl and a half that sent blood flying, as Noyes is known for his punching power. Yet round 2 of the "Fight of the Night" ended at the 49 second mark when Noyes submitted Carlson via Rear Naked Choke.

The first half of the card ended in a Featherweight bout sponsored by Fifth Round Clothing. Chris DeLuna of Vallejo's Team Asylum squared off against Leo "the Pitbull" Morales making his MMA debut from Echoes of the Spirit Kempo Academy of South Lake Tahoe. Morales handily dominated Round 1; only to have the tables turned on him 29 seconds into the second round as DeLuna forced him to TapOut in under 30 seconds.

The second half commenced with a lightweight bout between South Lake Tahoe's Ryan McCarthy fighting for Team Escobar and Tyler Bowen fighting out of Ken Shamrock's Lion's Den of Reno. McCarthy dominated the first round only to suffer a strike to the groin that took him awhile to recover from. Once recovered he came back with a vengeance. In round 2 he bloodied Bowen's eye and the match went the full three rounds with McCarthy winning by unanimous decision.

The next match was a lightweight fight between Ricky Jackson of Frank Shamrock's MMA School in San Jose with a 5-0 record against Nick Balestra of Sacramento, California. Balestra went at Jackson with numerous high kicks, one of which caused Jackson to strike him in the groin. Although Jackson seemed to dominate most of the fight, Balestra forced him to TapOuT to Triangle choke 2:11 into the second round.

This was followed by an upset as Rodney Canlas of Vallejo's Team Asylum took down Reno Academy of Combat's Tyler Cowan by a vicious armbar 1:38 into Round one. Cowan is the current Bantamweight Title Holder, coming off a recent victory at Ultimate Reno Combat 14. After the fight Canlas said he wants a shot at that Title.

The Main Event was a Heavyweight Brawl for the Ultimate Reno Combat Heavyweight Title. Steve Dickey (7-0) of San Jose took on the reigning champion, Tyler Addiego (5-0) of Grass Valley's GCA Cage Fighting. What was scheduled to be a 5-round battle ended in the first round with a TKO for Steve Dickey after he immobilized and pounded on Addiego. This proved to be quite an upset for some of the out-of-town fans, to which Dickey responded, "You're welcome to try to take this belt from me."  The reigning champion from Frank Shamrock's MMA record now stands at 8-0.

Petulant children in the crowd throwing tantrums (and beverages)aside, it was a great night of MMA fights.  The next Ultimate Reno Combat event is URC 16: Full Throttle at the Grand Sierra Resort & Casino in Reno on August 27, 2010. Collup promises another event in Lake Tahoe on October 9, 2010.
