With the Mayweather fight still uncertain and time running out for a decision, Paulie Malignaggi looks like the most likely candidate for a date with Pac-Man. Top Rank boss Bob Arum has even said that the fight with Malignaggi can be finalized within an hour.
That might be a slightly optimistic time scale, but Lou DiBella and Arum can certainly get past most of the problems that the Mayweather fight created.
While he isn't as big of a star as Floyd Mayweather, Paulie does have an ever bigger gift for the gab than Money, and will no doubt sell a lot of pay per views on the back of that alone.
How many of those people will be wanting to see Paulie get smacked around by Manny and how many think he can win is debatable, but Malignaggi vs. Pacquiao should still be one of the bigger possible fights for Manny at the moment.
On paper this might look like an easy fight for Manny, after all Malignaggi has been battered and broken respectively by Miguel Cotto and Ricky Hatton, Pacquiao's two most recent victims. Malignaggi has improved since then however, and rebounded from a robbery decision loss to convincingly outclass Juan Diaz in his last bout.
The fight itself will have to be sold on the fact that stylistically this one might be tough for Manny. Paulie is fast and has excellent defensive boxing skills. He also holds a height and reach advantage over Manny and isn't going to try to engage like most of Manny's recent opponents have. Having said that, Manny will still be the heavy favorite at either light or full welterweight. Malignaggi has only been as heavy as 141lbs in the past, but has the size to make the jump if the money is right, and fights against the number one pound for pound fighter tend to be pretty lucrative.
The other factor that this fight will no doubt play on is the fact that Paulie is opinionated to a fault, and has said several times in the past that he believes there is something 'fishy' about Manny Pacquiao. (alluding to the use of performance enhancing drugs of some sort). Pacquiao for his part would no doubt welcome the chance to face one of his accusers across the ring, and will probably also enjoy the different challenge that Malignaggi would pose than his recent victories, which have increasingly looked all too easy for the 7 weight champion.

Pacquiao vs Shane Mosley, Paul Williams, or Yuri Foreman will be something I'm ready to pay PPV money for. But Pacquiao against a real loser like Paulie Poly M. is something I'll give a miss. Poly is like PBF = he can't win in Welter against Cotto, went down to a smaller guy in Junior Welter against Hatton and still can't win, so he decided to fight the smaller guys in 135 lbs. like Juan Diaz. Poly and PBF talk more than what they can actually do. The only difference between them is that Poly has this big "L" (LOSER) on his forehead while PBF has this big "D" (DUCKER).
What a waste of everybody's time. Paulie doesn't belong in the elite league. Better to fight another welterweight champion.
I'll support this fight by Manny against Paulie or whoever it may be for that matter.

For real man, Paulie is good, he's a lower grade version of Mayweather style, he too a defensive fighter. Though PBF has more power and more slick. I think PAC is trying to test himself from a defensive fighter. He already test himself from a power puncher Cotto, so this time a Marquez type Welter, and thats Paulie. If this fight happens,it could be a refrain from a fight with one of the Philippines boxing champions:Navarrete(against Ecuador's Hector Cortez).Navarrete as Pacquiao was chasing all night the hit and run,motor mouth Cortez and the latter ,taller Ecuadorian eked out a decision in Blaisdell Arena in Hawaii.
But Pacquiao is not a Navarrete,that's why i cautioned "it could".

This year, Floyd already made a mockery out of the so called Marquez fight catchweight. For the entire Mayweather/Marquez promotion, not one single person could tell us the exact catchweight limit for the proposed fight, and why? All that, just to please Floyd. About the Malignaggi-Pacquiao fight, i'm no to that.. Why? Paulie doesn't deserve a Pacquiao fight. Actually he's career is on the downfall, he's been beaten by Cotto, Hatton and Diaz (whom Cotto and Hatton has been beaten by Pac). Paulie beat Diaz on their rematch, but that doesnt make sense. Why don't go for finale versus Diaz instead of #1 Pac? Most people will think of what i thought of this thing too.. 1 more thing, if you think Mayweather Jr. doesnt deserve much, why Paulie? If Mayweather's name is much greater than this all-talk Paulie too?
The winner of Mosley-Berto is much better especially its welterweight, Paulie is light-welter. If Pac has only 1 fight left before he retire and can't wait for Mosley-Berto winner, then the best match for March 13 will be Foreman for a catchweight for his title, or much better Bradley because he's undefeated and proved many things than this g*y Paulie.

with Pac's fully developed right hand, it's his chance to shut up the JMM camp once & for all. they are both exciting fighters who like to bang. before, Pac was a one-arm bandit with his left, now he's a more complete boxer.
The logic here is that Malignaggi lost to Cotto and Hatton. Hatton and Cotto both lost to Pacman. Hatton and Cotto got at least 2 KDs in their bout against Pacman. Malignaggi will earn millions for this fight at the expense of his record, his career, his life. Medical team should expect and be ready for the worst KO for this bout if it should happen. Still, there is the probability that he might pull an upset to which the pecentage is very low like 3%-5% at the most. If Paulie warned Hatton before that he will eat a lot of right hand, how will Hatton warn Paulie now? Still, he's got the balls to face Manny. I prefer that Malignaggi and Bradley go at it first before the winner face-off with Pacman. This way, they have earned the right to face Pacman.
