Comedian Adam Carolla's recent comments about Manny Pacquiao and the Philippines are in the process of causing an uproar with both the millions of Pacquiao fans and Filipino people around the world.
There isn't any doubt his comments were offensive, and racist even, but the thing people are forgetting all too quickly is that Carolla is getting what he needs from this outrage, attention.
Manny Pacquiao is now big news virtually all over the world, and someone like Carolla knows this. His podcast, which is popular but not hugely so in the United States will no doubt have millions of extra listeners with this edition and make Carolla much more well known around the world as well.

Whether the attention is positive or negative, its still attention and merely by being noticed Carolla has achieved his original aim. By the sounds of it the entire section of the show could well have been planned purely in order to generate controversy.
Comedians tend to have free reign to say what they want more than anyone else. If Floyd Mayweather says something offensive about the Philippines such as that they have the best performance enhancing drugs, people are offended and he gets the flack for it. A comedian though always has the excuse that they were just joking and didn't mean any offense. The kind of things Carolla was coming out with though are over the edge and hopefully he gives a full and frank apology.

Perhaps the most offensive thing about the whole show were the comments about the Philippines themselves. Manny Pacquiao is a public figure, and I doubt he's that bothered about what someone said about him on a podcast as he sits in his mansion. To degrade an entire nation of people though is obviously inexcusable and Carolla was clearly not thinking when he opened his mouth with that one.

I completely agree Brian, this is exactly the same as the kind of things other fighters come out with to keep their names in the headlines.
Will, New Jersey: "I don't see what the big deal is, comedians make fun of countries and sports stars all the time and no one cares. Just because its Manny Pacquiao and they think he's some kind of god over there everyone has to make a big deal out of it. Carolla was just trying to be funny, get over it"

Riding with the issue is a game people usually do most especially with people/shows that needs a boost in ratings. Let it be. Corolla knows all too well he does not know what he is talking about. Give Corolla a little share of the pie. Even if it means grabbing it from you. It won't really hurt when a small child do that to you.
