Pacquiao and Mayweather playing chess

The chess game has begun, and both players are positioning themselves through moves and counter moves.  Roach recently threw Yuri Foreman's 154 lb title into the mix, and Mayweather has thrown Matthew Hatton into the mix?  Does anyone believe any of this?  Matthew Hatton vs Floyd Mayweather? This isn't exactly a PPV monster now is it?  Floyd has no business fighting Matthew Hatton and anyone with two cents worth of intelligence knows it.  Now, the Yuri Foreman argument.  True enough Foreman does hold the 154 lb title, and an 8th world title for Pacquiao is within reach.   With that said, do we really believe that a fight against Yuri Foreman is what Bob Arum and Team Pacquiao are gunning for next?

These are strategic moves in order to see how both sides will react.  The fight between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao will generate revenue that neither man will ever see again in their lives.  Both men are nearing the end of their careers.  Manny has political aspirations and will soon exit boxing and head towards serving his country in the political arena.  Mayweather already retired once, and doesn't have much more to prove other than make an attempt at defeating Manny Pacquiao.

This fight all boils down to money.  Getting both sides to agree on the percentage of the pot is what will make or break this fight.  Most people feel as if Pacquiao should get the lions share of the pot because of his accomplishments in the ring, and more importantly, he sells more tickets.  That's a pretty good argument. Mayweather feels as if he should get the lions share of the pot.  This writer feels as if a 45/45 split with the winner getting the remaining 10 percent should get the job done.  If Manny Pacquiao is convinced that he will defeat Mayweather than he should be convinced that he will get the 55 percent at the end of the night.  The same things goes for Mayweather.  If Floyd is so convinced that he is going to beat Pacquiao, then by all means sign the 45/45 split, winner gets the extra 10, no?

The negotiations for this fight shouldn't be too complicated. Whichever way the lions share falls, both men are guaranteed to make ridiculous amounts of money.

Here we go again,Manny Pacquiao is the kind of guy that cares more about a seat in congress that 40 million dollars,he already had lots of trouble counting his billion pesos.Theres no chance he's fighting on the proposed date, which is May?thats the heart of the elections. If Mayweather really, trully wants a piece of Pacman,he has to abide by his schedule,March that is,Pacman on the other hand have to fight on March, would that be against Mayweather or not ,that is to sweeten his popularity.YOU DIG????

BRAD, WHY NOT JUST HAVE THE 5% DIFFERENTIAL, SO MAKE IT 47 1/2%EACH, WITH THE ADDITIONAL 5% GOING TO THE WINNER. THE EXTRA 5% IS STILL A GOOD SUM OF MONEY, IF BOTH ARE NOT WILLING TO SPLIT THE 50-50 RATIO. WE ALL KNOW THERE IS NO LOSER IN THIS FIGHT, SPEAKING FINANCIALLY, OF COURSE.

i don't think Manny Pacquiao will go up to super welterweight (154 lbs.) to fight Yuri Foreman for the 8th world title..Manny Pacquiao himself says that this is probably his last division at welterweight (147 lbs.)..moving up to 154 lbs. to challenge WBA champion Yuri Foreman is too risky for PACMAN boxing career..i know Foreman is beatable especially if he face to the fighter like Pacquiao..the height and weight of PACMAN is not suitable at the 154 lbs. because the fighters that campaigning at 154 lbs. division has the height of 5'10" up and weighs 154 lbs. up..to tell you honestly,PACMAN is not comfortable in this division because he is dominant at 135-147 lbs..the truth is this,if the fighter increase in weight his power and speed will also decrease..i believe that Pacquiao-Mayweather "fight of the century" will possibly happen September-December next year because of the election on May 2010..certainly Mayweather and Pacquiao will need a tune up fight..

If Pacquiao-Mayweather will not happen, I tell you, Manny will not also be a congressman in his home province. People in their province were so jealous that they want him to finish or concentrate in his boxing career before any thing in politics. Think Manny Pacquiao!!!

If Floyd Jr. want to fight Pacquiao, March is enough for both guys to prepare themselves. What i see Floyd jr. is just making alibis that indicates that he's scared to fight Pacquiao.

In my honest opinion, pacquiao is not much after of the dollar he will be getting from this fight. The people behind him are the ones pushing him to this and that making sure Pacquiao gets much which means a big pay day for his advisers. I am even incline to believe that Roach wants more of the glory for Pacquiao to achieve rather than money. That is why Freddie is considering Pacquiao against Foreman instead of Mayweather. What money could this fight brings into the table should this happen? It's true that Foreman is the champion, but he doesn't have the market. For Manny and Roach, they have all the luxury. Manny already has the money to support his family all through their lives. We hear athletes ended up their carrer from riches to rags, but not with pacquiao. For the sake of argument, if it took Mike Tyson 10years to drain his pocket, then it will take 460 years for Pacman to do the same. Simple mathematics, P46.00 (phil peso) is equivalent to $1.00 which means he has to do 46 time

  • bruce 2 years ago

Pacquiao has to spend 46 times as much as Mike Tyson before he runs out of money. For Roach, if he makes Manny 8 weight world champion then for all he knows money will just come to him because almost all boxers in the world would like to train in Wild Card gym. So this is more of pride and glory issue than dollar. If Manny goes into politics, he doesn't have to spend much. Politicians don't spend much, if they do, they have to get it back by all means. Corruption comes into places. I am not saying Manny is corrupt or would be if he is elected. If Mayweather-Pacquiao should not happen i guess i know the answer.

I would like to thank the 40 year old mental case (that spends half of his life consumed with me) for the money he's making me by visiting my articles 20 times a day. At about a penny a click, I am guessing at this rate you will have made me 20 bucks soon enough, and counting. Thank you!

    Brad,

I couldn't help but notice what you wrote - see below as I quote you:

"Mayweather already retired once, and doesn't have much more to prove other than make an attempt at defeating Manny Pacquiao"

==> ACTUALLY, Mayweather has EVERYTHING TO PROVE STILL! The guy ducked all the A list welterweights and he still has to prove that he could beat an A class Welterweight. If I may recall, Marquez wasn't an full fledge Welterweight; so was Baldomir, Judah, hatton, Gatti and Corley(?).

The problem with Floyd is, he claims to be the BEST, yet refuses to fight the BEST in his own division. How then do you justify your greatness? Simply put: TO BE THE BEST, YOU HAVE TO FIGHT THE BEST!

i agree with manny pacquiao should not run for political moves until he settles the score with floyd mayweather. A seat for Pacquiao should be reserved after the fight. I would like Pac to focus first on Mayweather before entering POlitical ring.

For sure Manny's adviser and promoters are in a busy butt, But for Manny he is busy in another thing and that is his candidacy. Manny's mind is not in floyd thing. He was defeated once by Darlene and now he wants to proved he can enter in the political arena, Manny's mind setting is on political arena more that in boxing arena.

For me as a pinoy Manny should not rush things, I mean there will be another election in the future but Manny vs. Floyd cannot be delay because this is like a delicious food for the fans that can be spoil if not serve quickly.

    SOMEDAY WHEN WE TATS
    (by Manny Pacquiao)
They asked you if you’ll fight me
And you choked on your reply
I’d rather Arum deal with you
Than mislead you with a lie
And who am I to judge you,
On what you say or do
    The fans are now beginning
    To see the real you…
    And someday when we tats
My LEFT will be too much
That you have to close your eyes
    Where do you hide?
I wanna pound you til you’re white
‘Til your face breaks down and cry
    I wanna beat you
‘Til you dream and say, goodnight.
You think you are a strategist
That you can insult my pride
    But through your insecurities
    You’re ZERO loss seemed right
    You’re just another fighter
So far from what is true
    An overrated boxer
    Who never gives his due
    And someday when we tats
My RIGHT will be too much
That you have to close your eyes
    Where do you hide?
I wanna pound you til you’re white
‘Til your face breaks down and cry
    I wanna beat you
‘Til you dream and say, goodnight.

I agree that manny should focus and take this negotiation seriouly while still in his prime. We know that he doesn't have to prove much more based on his accomplishments but fighting PBF adds his luster and serves as an icing to the cake.So forget about politics this time.In politics you will not be honored, idolized, respected and even treated a hero as what people did in boxing.Don't lose it our champion.

    Fight dates are extremely important.

Actually, if the fight occurs between March and May 2010, the chances of the Pacman losing will be more than 60 percent. Truth to tell, Pacquiao prefers politics, basketball and cockfighting well before his job as a boxer. Entering into a Congressional fight is a four-in-one mix of politics, basketball, cockfighting and boxing. Despite his highly-respected capability to focus on his training, there's no way that Pacquiao will be mentally intact by the second quarter of 2010. If the Pacman does win, and say subsequently choose to fight between June and September 2010, I don't see how Mayweather can survive the kind of Pacquiao Preparation that will go into the fight.

As for styles, styles don't make fights. It is the REALIZED EXPECTATION OF STYLES that matters.

Cotto has had a very good style for taking on any quality welterweight. But like Hatton and de la Hoya, he made the fatal mistake of setting into a mental frame that Pacquiao cannot physically match up to him. The moment he realized that Pacquiao is factually mauling him the way a law enforcer would beat down a chronic drug pusher in a deserted dead-end street, he had nothing to give any more. Cotto, like Hatton and de la Hoya before him never, as in never, listened to factual observations and evidence that the Pacman has had the quickness and power to seriously hurt anybody up to the middleweight level.

This will again be the fatal mistake of the Mayweathers. All this time, Floyd and his believers feel that the "ZERO" in the loss collumn is like a magic bullet or amulet that can ward of the spirit of bad results. He and his believers keep pounding into his brain that he has world-class defense that cannot be penetrated by anybody. As with their inane braying of African-American-style challenges and insults, Floyd Jr and his twin-father fail to realize the supreme lack of logic behind their belief.

  • dtfernando 2 years ago

    (continued...)
The rest of the world already know that the Mayweathers KNOW already all the tools and tactics required to beat the Pacman. Honestly. What is eluding the Mayweathers is that the rest of the world also are aware that Floyd Jr CANNOT use those tactics against the Pacman without coming to grief himself. The Pacman in the ring is a force of self-explanatory savagery that won't require lapses in defense. You might as well subscribe to the flawed reason that a successful rape requires defensive weaknesses in a woman. A safety-first Floyd doesn't know what an industrial accident that is waiting to happen is all about. THE PACMAN HAS HAD PROBLEMS WITH COUNTERPUNCHERS BECAUSE FREDDIE ROACH WAS NOT A GREAT COUNTERPUNCHER HIMSELF. Add a proven counterpunching adviser to the Pacquiao backroom, and Floyd's chances are considerably diminished.

Manny should stop dreaming Political Career, we all know that from the start he will not win it because people loves him as a BOXER and not as Politician. What he's going to do there in Congress if he wins as a Congressman? First of all he will only lose his respectable name in boxing, plus all his wealth as we all know some politician will ride on Manny's popularity and use his wealth at the same time.

So guys, we love to see Manny Pacquiao in the Ring not in the Congress right? So I think anyone should advise Manny to focus his career in Boxing and forget Politics, as DIRTY POLITICS will knock him out so easily and effortless. He should STRIKE WHILE THE IRON IS HOT, and his career is at his PRIME so he should grab all this opportunities while all stars are vowing unto him.
When his prime is about to end then that's the time for him to enter Political dreams for sure every Filipino will vote for him. Maybe about 5 years more or till his prime ends he should stay in his Boxing care
