Local Utah author, Kerstin Daynes, is facilitating a Utah Infertility Awareness Event as an introduction to National Infertility Awareness Week.
Daynes has arranged with Board Certified fertility specialists from Utah to speak at the event in an effort to raise awareness about the far-reaching affects of infertility. Keynote speakers will include Dr. Ahmad Hammoud, M.D., Dr. James Heiner, M.D, Dr. Russell Foulk, M.D., and Dr. William Keye, M.D. These doctors will share their experience and knowledge as they address topics ranging from basic infertility information, treatment options, naturally enhancing fertility, and coping socially and emotionally with infertility.
Daynes, author of the recently published book: "Infertility: Help, Hope, and Healing", will conduct the event and offer the closing remarks.
When interviewed, Daynes explained that her personal passion about infertility is what prompted her to create such a great event:
“I am a little passionate about infertility. It is a topic that is not talked about for many reasons, but, especially because it involves an intimate part of our lives. I don't think we should be ashamed about it. Rather, I think that we should talk about it without so much reservation--that is part of why I want to get couples together at an educational event...to learn, to talk, and to feel empowered.”
According to Daynes, the Utah Infertility Awareness campaign committee is hoping to “encourage couples to acknowledge infertility, to learn more about infertility, and recognize things they can do in their lives to live beyond infertility. We would really like couples to go away feeling hopeful, feeling more educated, and to feel not so isolated and alone.”
The National Infertility Awareness Week, sponsored by RESOLVE (The National Infertility Association), will be held across America from 24 April – 1 May, 2010. Holding the Utah kickoff event is a great way to bring local attention to a national concern.
“We are hoping to get men and women thinking about infertility and then to have them feel empowered to do something during the following week to raise awareness of infertility in their families, among their friends, and in their community. Of course, we are hoping this will become an annual event. And, maybe we will see events during the year. This kickoff event is a good place to start”, said Daynes.
The event will be hosted at the University of Utah in the Health Sciences Education Building from 9:00AM-12:00PM on Saturday, April 24th. The event will be offered FREE, however, as seating is limited, registration is required, and will open on April 1st at www.utahinfertilityawareness.com. Anyone who is dealing with infertility or knows someone who is unable to conceive will benefit from attending this event.
The event is sponsored by RESOLVE (the National Infertility Association), the Reproductive Care Center, the Utah Center for Reproductive Medicine, and the Utah Fertility Center.
