Watermill Ateliers
October 2nd, Green Drinks Hamptons and EcoEastend sponsored a tour and wine and cheese party at the new Watermill Ateliers on the East End. The event drew local businesses and individuals interested in sustainable building and lifestyles.
Developer Lou Meisel and his son, LEEDPro Ari Meisel discussed their decision to go LEED and their process with the Town of Southampton. (LEED is a sustainability rating system developed by the U.S Green Building Council).
Architect Jim Merrell was also there to provide the structural information and inspiration for his beautiful design: barns that were so endemic to the east end. Builders Glenn Heidtmann & Sons were also there to celebrate.
The nearly 8,000 square foot complex consists of three office buildings and six one-bedroom apartments. Finished with FLOR sustainable carpet, bamboo flooring and no VOC paint, the apartments demonstrate that sustainability can also be beautiful.
