The Smoking Two Year Old
Apparently, bad parenting isn't reserved for just the western world. In the following video we see a Chinese toddler who is encouraged to smoke and curse. The child has a cigarette behind his ear and struggles to use the lighter to light up. Eventually, after using both of his hands, the toddler achieves flame and begins smoking much to the delight of onlookers and, I am guessing, his dad who is behind him on the motorcycle. A video that needs to be seen to be believed.
Is this a sign that the western culture is having a bad effect on the east, or is it simply a video that proves bad parenting is universal?

Thanks for the support Granny! I never knew that smoking cigarettes at two was a cultural thing that easterners take pride in. Does this mean that Alain thinks smoking is 'ok' for toddlers and not be challenged because it is cultural? By that logic, if a culture decides to cut off kids fingers should that be dismissed based purely on the fact that it is cultural? I think not. As I said before, I shall not 'zip it.'
There's something freakishly odd about how comfortable the child is smoking the cigarette. His mannerisms are that of an experienced smoker. Very strange, very shocking, and kind of awesome to watch knowing that ain't my kid!

I can't believe this - In the US we try to prevent our kids from smoking what are they doing over there I mean the kids expressions are of an experienced smoker. This is just wrong and disturbing on many levels.

Wow, who teaches a child to smoke like that before they are even old enough to know what they are doing. Smoking is a gross and needless habit, never mind what it does to a persons health. The parents a basicaly giving that child a slow and eventualy painfull death. Health issues aside just think of all the money that goes in to supporting such a habit. Put the money being used for cigarettes aside and buy some thing that is actualy usefull

To Teach a Child to smoke before they know how to read or write is very sick. the parent who is condoning this should be thrown in jail and lose their parental rights. This is sad and unbelievable whom ever thinks this is cool should be ashamed of themselve as well....

I may not speak for others but to the ?? posted is this a sign of Western Culture having a bad effect on the Eastern Culture or just showing that Bad Parenting is Universal. It is just bad parenting period. It has and will continue throughout the ages of humanity no matter what culture they are from.
It is one thing to educate a child on what is "Good" and what is "Bad" then as they get older let them make the choice for themselves as to which path they will follow. You as a parent can only sit back for the ride then. It is another when you imbed improper actions and behaviors on a child you are supposed to be protecting from the Big Bad World out there.

I THINK IT IS SAD TO SEE THIS. IT REALLY NOT FUNNY. PEOPLE IF WE TEACH OUR KIDS ANYTHING NOWADAYS WE NEED TO TEACH THEM TO BE SMART ABOUT DECISIONS WE MAKE IN LIFE PERIOD.WHAT WE NEED TO TEACH IS HOW TO PUT GOD IN OUR LIVES INSTEAD OF RUNNING AWAY FROM HIM.
This Video is absolutely shocking, immoral, SICK and abusive. It blows my mind how these "adults" in the video are encouraging the child to smoke and laughing while he is doing it. All this kid is learning is, "oh, everyone is laughing and clapping for me, this is fun" This child doesn't know better, it is up to us as parents and caretakers to teach our children to make good decisions, live their lives to the fullest and most important to NOT give into peer pressure. It saddens me as an expecting mother, step-mother and aunt to 5 nieces and nephew, that these parents would "use" their child to do this obscene thing to get a good laugh in.
