New Year resolutions 2.0

We've made it through the first week of February.  In Minneapolis, that is saying something, considering that January is the coldest month of the year.  Although you may have made it through the first month of the year there is a good chance that your New Year's resolution didn't.  Don't worry, you aren't alone, but that's no reason to give up on the rest of the year.  If you are like many Minnesotans, and people in general, exercise was more than likely on your list this year (and every other year, for that matter).  Don't let the cold of Minnesota keep you from achieving your fitness goals, you can do it.

To combat the weather and maintain a regular regime of physical fitness there are numerous activities in the Twin Cities that will keep you active.  It's just a matter of making yourself get out of the house.  If you are a parent, get your children and spouse involved as well.  By making this resolution a part of your family time, you are 5 times more likely to keep your resolution.  (Okay, I made that up, but it has got to help to some degree).  Without actually bearing the elements (except from your car to the front door), there are many places around the Cities to get in shape.

Walking:  Plymouth has an excellent fieldhouse for you and the family to walk any enjoy other activities.  A more courageous man than I would even consider one of the shopping many malls for a brisk walk.

Ice skating:  Although you probably haven't tried on skates since you were twelve, going inside (or even outside) and one of the many rinks around the area will provide a great work out, and it's fun too (As long as you don't fall too much).

Just Playing:  Regardless of where you live in the in the Twin Cities area your community will definitely have a Community center where you can play various games with the kids or just try to be a kid again by playing pick-up basketball games, dodgeball or many other things.

Winter is definitely a difficult time to find motivation to stay active, or get active, but let "there's nothing to do" be an excuse of the past.  Get off of your computer and do something...something productive.  There are many options around the area, you just have to spend the time to find them and make the time in your day to do something new.  There's still time to make your resolution come true.  This is the year, you can do it.
