Like watching an elegant woodsy tea party walking down the runway but with enough sensuality underneath the innocent naivety that you knew this wasn’t your grandmother’s tea party - Breeyn McCarney’s Fall/Winter 2010 collection was presented this past week at Toronto’s Courthouse displaying her honed skill for knitting, leather-crafting, hand embroidery and hand print. There was a true connection with nature as the hand printed flowers and leaves gave you a fantasy type feel yet there was a modern twist with such embellishments as tassels along with soft neutral colors, corsets and subdued plaid being subtly incorporated.* It was clear that McCarney was up to date on modern fashion movements but allowed it only to influence her in the least rather than outdo her own original designs. As well one could see a touch of Native Indian influence in her beading and a Victorian flair to her bodices but again you’d have to look twice as McCarney reinterpreted these ideas to produce something completely different in its entirety. McCarney’s latest collection will gently take your hand and bring you to a peaceful and imaginative place if you're willing to follow.
*Only natural fibre fabrics were used. All fur used was 'ethical' fur, taken from vintage pieces or purchased from trappers. McCarney strives to make her company environmentally impact free.
