Recently, I had the pleasure of getting in contact with interior designer Michelle Williams of: Michelle Williams Interiors. I thought it would be fun to pull in some home fashion trends in conjunction with the wonderful trends that have been presenting themselves on this season’s fashion run way!
As a fashion industry professional I have come to realize that home fashions really do take lead from the scene on the runways. Michelle really implemented that throughout our interview. As she says, “good design is good design!”
This season as we saw in some of my more recent trend reports the industry is doing a throwback to the eighties. Michelle really points out that home fashions are definitely following suit. Many designers are pulling in 80’s inspired furniture and designers such as Karl Springer. They are mixing old with new for a unique and eclectic mix of home furnishings. Michelle explains that in order to pull off this look, “you need to bring it back with an edge and add your personality to it.” She suggests pulling in statement pieces like pop art inspired art for a fun effect.

Some great color trends to follow according to Michelle are the unique combinations of bright fuchsia pinks and reds. These combinations can definitely be seen in the lines of Marc Jacobs and Jason Wu. She also suggests color combos such as orange and red as well as purple and citrus greens. She also suggests to go for an eclectic mix of home accessories and to go outside of the box to find them. Visit gardening stores for interesting pits use can use as trash cans or side tables! Add some paint and round glass top for a unique addition to your home!
This season if there is one thing to invest in, Michelle suggests investing in art. No home is complete without it. Find pieces that compliment what is already in your home and that you find beauty in. Art comes in a wide variety of price ranges and it is ok to go for inexpensive pieces at first if they catch your eye. You can always mix in higher value pieces; it is all about the eclectic mix that shows who you are as a person.
Another great tip Michelle suggests to brighten up a room is to add a splash of color with new throw pillows. They are the easiest and quickest way to freshen up a dull interior. She suggests visiting stores such as IKEA and Target for their great mixture as well as Jason’s Home and Garden as well as Phenomena!
