Circle Scarves

American Apparel Tie-Dye Circle Scarf

Just when you felt like you’d exhausted your collection of scarves, along comes a variation that will be hitting the streets full force next season: the cowl neck scarf.  Like a fabulous necklace or its popular classic tie-style cousin, these circle scarves add a little more panache to a simple dress or your favorite t-shirt and jeans combo.  But why wait until the leaves start to fall to get in on this latest scarf action?

It’s a cover-up…it’s a hood…it’s a cardigan…it’s all three and more!  American Apparel currently carries a great lightweight super sheer limited-time version of their classic cotton jersey style that can be worn in twelve different ways and is perfect for our hot Houston weather.  And I’m sure you can come up with more. J  You can also choose from a warmer acrylic fabric, tri-blend, and striped or tie-dyed patterns.

Eleanor Rot, a talented accessories designer from Porto, Portugal, has her own line and boutique that include handmade circle scarves (left).  Made from fabric fair leftovers, they are also green.  “According to what leftovers I find,” says Rot, “the quantities, color, and sizes of the scarves in my shop may vary.”  Think of them as limited editions and snatch up one of these very affordable pieces.

And don’t forget to check eBay, as usual, for some unusual and even vintage pieces.  Did you know that circle scarves were all the rage in the 60s and 70s?   The Anna.Carina eBay store carries some special vintage silk paisley and sheer silk scarves (below) that, in a shorter version, are even easier to wear into fall.

So dress up that suit, cocktail dress, or your favorite tee or tank with a circle scarf.  It will be your new favorite accessory and get you ahead of the curve for fall.
