Now here's a project the Pacific Northwest can get behing: Alanis Morissette is partnering with Woody Harrelson to create a line of eco-friendly jeans. The collection, called Reco Jeans, is made almost entirely of recycled materials and strives to make the process of creating denim more sustainable and environmentally-friendly. They're working on a way to make dyeing jeans even more eco-savvy as well: though their current dyeing process includes chemicals, their website explains that they're always in the process of making production more and more natural, and creating a "green" dye for blue jeans is next on their list of projects.
The best part of the product is its pricing strategy. The company is holding a Dutch auction through July 18th to determine how much the public is willing to pay for jeans. If you check out their official website, you can find out about the process of making each pair, what competitive brands cost, and what factors go into determining a price point. After reading, you can "bid" what you'd pay for a pair from the line. The average bid after the auction ends will become the retail price of the jeans. Better yet, the 300 bids closest to the average bid will get a limited edition boxed set of the jeans with a matching iPod case. Each visitor is allowed one bid (and each subsequent bid by any one person replaces their previous bid), so get on board before the auction closes on Saturday for a chance to win the set and shape denim history.
