Beautiful decay: The work of Dustin Genereux

Dustin Genereux has his full time job working for the man. But after he clocks out, he takes off the suit, throws on his skinny jeans and t-shirt, grabs his camera, and becomes Dustin the photographer.

Dustin is getting quite the following in Southern New England. He mostly shoots alternative models on location shoots (he’ll shoot a band every once in awhile if they’re lucky). He shoots in gritty, dirty locations yet the models always look stunning and classy. He has a way of making the most decrepit setting look rich and exciting. He is a master of “beautiful decay”.

Dustin is a soon to be graduate of Johnson and Wales University with a BA and an AS in graphic design. Originally from Sanford, Maine, he made his way down to Rhode Island for school. Aside from photography, he designs t-shirts, CD booklets, and websites.

Even though he may be younger than some of his colleagues (he’ll be turning 25 at the end of May), he has the maturity and the work ethic of someone who has been in the business for decades. Unlike many photographers starting out, he’s selective with who he works with. Those choices have definitely been beneficial to his career. His motto could be “work with the best and you will produce the best work”.

Dustin is on his way to be a successful photographer. He has what it takes to make in this cutthroat business when only the select few actually “make it”. He has the talent and the respect for the business to take him all the way to the top. Check out more work from Dustin on his website DustinGenereux.com and also on Facebook, Twitter, and Model Mayhem.

Yes, good luck. Unfortunately this write up projects this photographer as pretentious and condescending. Assuming a line like "(he’ll shoot a band every once in awhile if they’re lucky)" was to be a joke really evokes a sense that such works is beneath him.
The two pictures in this article I would assume being strong representations of his work, I don't believe they are. It's lacking conceptually. Where is the substance? Let's see something new.

    Cheers.

So, I'm not sure what you mean by that 'Observer'. Are you commenting on Dustin Genereux's work, or are you commenting on the article itself.

This write up projects this photographer as a current and fresh artist. Anyone able to work with Dustin Genereux now should consider themselves lucky, for he will continue to be in higher demand as his career develops. This article pinpoints the truth on his current talent, and how it will surely expand in the future. The pictures in the article are lacking nothing but more respect from viewers, because they are truly wonderful. There's nothing like young photographers with all the passion in the world for their art. Negative comments should do nothing but keep you going. Best of luck to you!

I think the comment about him shooting bands was more of "He's a great photographer, and they'd be lucky to have him shoot them" than "He's better than that."

Maybe it's a poorly written article but it comes off as 'holier-than-thou'. Should we hire this photographer or bow in his presence? And where is the 'beautiful decay' the title implies? These models are neither 'stunning' nor 'classy' and the pictures have no excitement.

Self-proclaimed "Artist"- an honest critique of what was presented was the intention, not anonymous negativity. Art is subjective of course, one may enjoy what another does not. What you see as negativity others may see as honesty. And what one needs is honesty and not just praise. And for an artist (and I use that term loosely) to lament over anything that they view as non-adulation for his or her work does not see the value in those remarks.

A stranger is your best friend in these terms because a stranger observes your work at face-value- their are no personal ties. They aren't your Mum, your friend or lover- they react with honesty.

Appreciate everyones comment. Good and bad. It comes with the territory. What Observer said about, "Art is subjective of course, one may enjoy what another does not." is exactly right. I respect everyones opinions of my work even if they are not something I want to hear. But I take it into account and I'll use it to grow as an artist. ZPM I wear a suit, sometimes! lol most of the times. Just casual business attire.
