Mode & Classic New York Spring Summer 2012

Industry City Bush Terminal
241 37 street Brooklyn, NY

Japanese kimono stylist/ designer Hiromi Asai, presented her Mode & Classic New York 2012 collection during BK Fashion Weekend Spring Summer 2012. Her ten look collection was divided into three parts; Classic, Classic to Mode, and finally Mode.

The show began with a Classic men's traditional formal outfit, composed of basic colors black and white. The next classic piece was a very colorful - furisode, long-sleeved formal woman's outfit. It's bright red color, bold black patterns, and splashes of green and yellow definitely stood out, and in a nice way. Those colors were complimented by a green, gold, and white obi (a wide-width sash type belt). As part of the fashion show, Ms. Asai made a style change on the model at the head of the runway, after the model‘s first walk. The model walked back down the runway in a totally different outfit to demonstrate the Classic to Mode segment.

For the Mode outfits, Hinaya Kyoto textiles and maco beads were applied to various effects. This section consisted of men's and women's looks. My favorite look was a see-through kimono jacket made by organdie. The result was a very modern and wearable twist on a style of clothes that has been around for over 1,000 years.
