It’s no secret that plastic bags are bad for the environment. They sit in landfills for years and eventually break down into tiny toxic particles that infiltrate waterways and soil. There is a growing international movement to ban or discourage the use of plastic bags because of their negative effects to the environment and that has made reusable bags big business.
In an effort to given women a stylish alternative that was better for the environment than the traditional plastic bag, a trio of friends from Portland created their own company called Green Chic Bags. Together they developed a line of Eco-friendly totes made from stylish fabrics and biodegradable materials found in the USA. They even do the production for their line in Portland as a way to minimize their global footprint. “We had always wanted to start our own business and somehow incorporate our love for fashion with a product that was environmentally friendly,” says co-founder Christy Mezzanatto.
The assortment of Green Chic bags includes over a dozen different styles including a zebra tote fittingly named Tori, a classic red bag with white polka dots named Minnie, and a black and white printed bag named Angelina. They also have an assortment of produce bags and a more traditional handbag with a strap called the ‘Chiclette’.
