Eco-friendly jewelry from Seattle's Thinknow Design

If you didn’t have a chance to check out the thinknow collection of jewelry at Fashion Ethic’s Pop-Up shop inside Ella Mon this weekend, don’t worry! I’ve got the inside scoop right here.

thinknow is a product design company created to synthesize art, fashion, and environmental sustainability. Rooted in architecture and global travel, thinknow designs are meant to inspire and capture the imagination while satisfying a collective environmental conscience.

Becky Ellis is the President and CEO of thinknow, a product design division of the architectural firm think, where she leads the design and management of architectural projects worldwide. Becky is a LEED(TM) Accredited professional committed to leadership in the green design community, and exploring the fusion of hospitality, fashion, and sustainable lifestyles.

All thinknow materials are sourced from sustainable suppliers, or created from recycled woods and papers. Wood veneers are produced with rapidly-renewable Italian poplar woods from certified, managed agricultural plantations. Adhesives used in crafting each piece of jewelry are water-based and non-solvent. Plus, all jewelry findings are nickel-free and come in both sterling silver or gold-filled finishes.

Thinknow currently has 4 collections of jewelry including:

Structures
- This collection is filled with constructed geometries and described by the thinknow team as “A collective system or design dependent upon the integrity of the whole rather than of any single part”. Items in the collection include the honeycomb patterns, bubble patterns, geometric chips, and ovals in orbit. Each style is available in your choice of wood including walnut, cherry and butternut.

Organics- This collection features the shapes and forms in a work of art that are of irregular contour, emulating and articulating forms found in nature. Shapes in the collection include honeycomb, bouquet, coral and leaves. The leaves are my favorite because they are made using Thai banana and mango leaf papers. I also love the etch & cut honeycomb pattern earrings with overlaid honey bangle.

Language
- The language collection is filled with beautiful symbols, signs, sounds, and gestures used as a means of sharing thoughts, emotions, & experiences. The language collection knows no language barriers and the layered wood and paper circles are made using recycled book pages and old maps.

Patterns- The pattern collection is filled with timeless geometries including circles, squares, tear drop and tribal shapes. I picked up the Circle Array earrings at a recent Fashion Ethic event and I love that they come in a variety of colors and wood finishes. The detail of the double-sided etch and cut pattern is amazing!

The thinknow line is stylish and eco-friendly- even the packaging is made from recycled-content cardboard. The website even notes that all the wood and papers from the jewelry, accessories and décor are garden-safe compostable products that can be tossed into the recycling bin or turned into naturally decomposed organic matter in your garden or compost containers.
