2010 Golden Globes: fashion highlights

The 2010 Golden Globes was overall a big fashion let down, with celebs who looked like they didn't care (Julia Roberts), were underdressed, boring, or inappropriate (Mariah Carey). Through the bore, a handful of stars shined, dressing like one should for the Golden Globes—elegant, decadent, and unique. Merci beaucoup.

Christina Aguilera looks so incredibly polished in this Versace gown that it's hard to imagine that she was once "Dirrty." Her hair, perfection. Her gown, perfection. Her makeup, perfection.

Mo'Nique has a golden glow to match her Golden Globe award! Her Reem Acra dress is perfect with her skin tone and the gentle draping is so soft, elegant and flattering.

I am mad for metallics, and they are a strong trend right now. Pair that with an incredible drape and fit, and you can see why I adore the Gucci dress worn by Olivia Wilde. It's glamourous and effortless at the same time--a look every celeb wants on the red carpet.

Halle Berry is one of those people that refuse to age. In fact, she looks better as the years go by. Halle showed everyone who the hot mama was in Hollywood in this Kaufman Franco gown, a risky dress that only she could pull off.

Any fashionista would be full of glee at seeing Lea Michele in her Oscar de la Renta gown. Classic, dramatic and Penelope Cruz-esque are four words to describe the noir dress. Lea showed she was not messing around when it came to being glam on the red carpet!

Susan Downey, producer, wife and savior of Robert Downey Jr., showed up many a starlet in this elegant yet exciting Armani dress (Robert Downey Jr. was also in Armani). Liquid sparkles and a beautiful gather at the waist give it the edge it needs to blast the other basic black gowns out of the water.

Rose Byrne in Lanvin is a vision in purple. Subtle folds add interest, and the floral pin is the perfect finishing touch. The hair just elevates the look to another level.

Amy Adams didn't let being preggers get in the way of looking absolutely fabulous in her Carolina Herrera dress. The perfect length showed off her slender legs and the unexpected color combination of forest green and copper/tangerine is gorgeous. Amy's hair just makes the entire look that much better.

If you've seen the show "Cougar Town," then you know that Courteney Cox is looking incredible lately. This Victoria Beckham dress fits like a glove, showing off the actress's toned body, and proves that Mrs. Beckham definitely has the designing chops. The belt on the dress adds a touch of glitz, and Courtney's hair keeps the look from looking too severe (something Posh is sometimes guilty of).

And finally, the woman who stole the show (when doesn't she?) Sophia Loren looked absolutely stunning in Giorgio Armani. The photo doesn't do her justice. If you saw the telecast of the Globes, you probably sat there, mouth ajar, as I did. She is 75 years old, and still as beautiful as ever. Take notes, everyone.
