Lotus House Thrift: New and gently used for pennies

Don't we all like designer duds that are easy on the wallet?  Well, here's just the place.  On the corner of NW 36th Street and 2nd Ave sits a yellow building with a bright pink sign.  It's a gem in disguise.  It houses Lotus House Thrift.

It's only been open for 3 months, but it is full of great fashion finds, as well as household items.  Often, when we think thrift store, we think "junk."  That is so not true here.  When I stopped in, I found brand new items, still tagged, from jeans  to designer purses with matching wallets to sandals and pumps (CHECK OUT THE SLIDESHOW BELOW).  And of course, there were gently used items, some of them bearing tags from Escada, Dior, Betsey Johnson and BCBG.

All of the proceeds benefit the nearby Lotus House Shelter, brainchild of Constance Collins Margulies.  Lotus House houses up to 50 homeless women and children, offering all kinds of services and resources, including maternity care, parenting, job search assistance, yoga, dancing, bookclubs and field trips.

Lotus House could use your clothing and household donations, as well as your skills as a volunteer.  Of course, monetary donations are always welcome.  This is an excellent opportunity to give back to our community and help our sisters.

For more information, please email Constance at president@lotushouseshelter.org.
