Betsey Johnson greets fan at her Aventura, Florida boutique
Longtime fashion designer, Betsey Johnson, made a special appearance at her Aventura Mall boutique in Aventura, Florida Saturaday. Fans lined up outside the store and gathered nearby to catch a glimpse of her anticipated grand arrival. She did not disappoint.
Wearing shiny teal cropped jeans and a long sleeve tee, Betsey received a bouquet of roses and a flute of champagne from employees gathered outside the boutique. She entered to welcoming applause, while a DJ spun popular tunes.
This Examiner got the chance to speak to her:
Examiner: You have been in the industry for a very long time, yet you've managed to stay ahead of the trending curve--how?
BJ: I don't know a trend from a turkey! I pedal my own bike. Everything should be timeless, in it's own way. And everything looks good in black!
Examiner: What was the first thing that you ever designed?
BJ: Back in 1965, I designed a flippy little t-shirt dress. It was made of stretchy, shiny football jersey material and came in 3 lengths: short, medium, and ankle length.
Examiner: What's next for you? How are you planning to expand your brand?
BJ: I'd love to do a kids line. I'd also like to do a bridal collection. And I'd like to do a mass market collection, like for Target or H&M. I'm also close to a closing a makeup deal. I like makeup.
