Even for high fashion award shows like the Golden Globes it is nice to see some celebrities not overdo their makeup and go to an event low-maintenance. It keeps the attention on the dress and accessories which is what is most important on a red carpet. It also allows you to do more with the hair, like Casey Mulligan did.
There are some steps to take to get this look.
Depending on the time of year apply either foundation or tinted moisturizer. Very little goes a long way. The point is to make it look like you aren't wearing makeup but still hiding flaws. On top of the foundation apply very little bronzer on the cheek bones. Use lip balm with very little color or colorless.
This look is great for every girl on the go and very easy to achieve. It looks like you aren't wearing any makeup, but still keeps you looking fresh and awake throughout the day or night.

Carey Mulligan Moviefone
Carey wore a navy blue empire waisted long dress by Nina Ricci. Her makeup choice allowed her wear a headband in her pixie cut without overdoing it.

Sofia Vergara Moviefone
Sofia, on the new hit comedy Modern Family, wore a wonderful blue gown with a bow on the back made by Carolina Herrera.
