Lexy brings fantasy football closer to the consumer

Competing in fantasy football just got a little bit easier.

Lexy.com, a new entertainment website that offers free-on demand audio clips known as Lexycasts, is teaming up with Footballguys.com to offer free daily information for fantasy football geeks.

“Our Lexycasts give us a medium to translate that information into layman's terms that all fantasy football participants can apply to their teams”, said David Dodds, CEO of FootballGuys.

“And with Lexy, not only do the immediate alerts put them in the know as soon as the info is public, the audio enables them to engage with Buzz whenever and wherever they are."

Lexycasts are accessible on Lexy.com and via the phone where subscribers can call their toll-free number and listen to a large number of different audio clips.

“There’s no application, no download, there’s no syncing. If you know how to make a phone call, you can access Lexy”, said Tony Levitan, the co-creator of Lexy.

“We launched NFL and College Football Lexycasts so sports fans can have on-the-go access to customized highlights from the people who really know their teams.”

Anyone can call Lexy and subscribe to any number of different programs that are put out by “Lexycasters” as they’re called.

Duke Frye, a journalist and long-time Kansas City sports veteran, already has five different programs on Lexy that range from up to date information on the Kansas City Chiefs to his “DUKE-ing It Out” feature that acts as a near instant audio commentary program.

“I enjoy the opportunity to do my commentaries so that they’ve got a broader audience and by doing them here on Lexy that gives me an opportunity”, said Frye.

“I’m a fan of sports just like to the people who are listening to me on Lexy. I try and bring that across in my lexycasts and also provide humor as well. I hope people get that when they listen to me.”

Frye isn’t the only commentator on Lexy who’s finding success.

Todd Lafferty hosts a show that gives listeners daily information into the world of fantasy football.

His show, Fantasy Football Buzz, is like other Lexy other programs, with daily audiocasts just under four minutes in length that focus on everything fantasy football, such as sleepers of the week and the best players at each position.

Each day offers a different piece of advice that is easily assessable with a phone or Internet access.

“By Lexycasting these interviews, fantasy players get updates whenever they have a moment, whether while commuting or out shopping with their spouse”, said Lafferty.

“Best of all, you don’t need a smart phone nor are you required to download a podcast. If you can make a simple phone call, you can enjoy Fantasy Buzz.”

The program gives fantasy players fast and important information that can help them win their upcoming game.

Fantasy Football Buzz, one of the Lexy and FootballGuys collaboration efforts, won’t just stop during the season.

Lafferty sees it as a yearlong effort with plenty of material for even the staunchest fantasy nuts.

“Beyond this year and as we move along we have ideas for the off-season, the NFL Draft, next summer with the training camps, and going into next season that will enhance and expand what were doing with Footballguys”, said Lafferty.

FootballGuys and Lexy are confident that this new partnership will offer the best of both worlds to consumers: easily attainable and entertaining information for free.

Once a Fantasy Football Buzz post is done and ready to be played by its listeners, a text message is sent out to its subscribers so that they don’t have to check their phone or the Internet for updates.

The updates come right to the listener.

“Our Lexycasts give us a medium to translate that information into layman's terms that all fantasy football participants can apply to their teams”, said Dodds.

“And with Lexy, not only do the immediate alerts put them in the know as soon as the info is public, the audio enables them to engage with Buzz whenever and wherever they are."

Lexy offers much more then just sports, however.

CNN, MSNBC, and The Onion are just a number of companies that have Lexycasts available for listeners.

ABC hosts “Money Minute”, a financial Lexycast and a number of groups have comedic shows, such as “The Onion Radio News”, a short news podcast straight from The Onion’s radio news network.

Levitan sees a bright and expansive future for Lexy; one in which they become the world’s largest interactive audio network.

Lexy’s goal is not to compete with websites like Twitter, which offer quick 140 character updates from people anywhere, but rather work together as another source for news and information.

That means, for instance, that sports journalists such as ESPN.com’s Adam Schefter and Foxsports.com’s Jay Glazier might someday use Lexy just as they do Twitter today, said Levitan.

“Our focus is on great programming. We’re strong believers in the fact that contact is king.”

And just like with Twitter, celebrities and the common person are able to use Lexy.

Consumers themselves are able to go to Lexy.com and start up their own program that family, friends, and anyone in the world can subscribe to and listen to.

“The media you create should be accessible to the consumers in whatever form they want to consume it and that’s the phenomenon that were working towards”, said Levitan.

“If you want what’s important to you, when and where it’s important to you … Just call Lexy.”
