Mr. Fantasy critiques the ESPN mock draft

ESPN is the world leader in Fantasy Football. No doubt about it.

OK, call me biased. Yes, I was a part of ESPN's crew that launched the sensational product more than a decade ago. My weekly contribution was called "Ask Mr. Fantasy," a resource I continue to provide fantasy fans today with my unique "Mr. Fantasy Access" service.

Enough about me. This is about the 10-team mock draft ESPN has published that is supposed to provide a "how to" guide for fantasy players this season.

Alas, even world leaders make mistakes, and I'm here to point them out before they potentially sabotage the seasons of innocent bystanders.

My first comment about the draft would be this: ESPN is proud to boast of 10 fantasy "experts" in its arsenal. Judging by the draft, you can tell all 10 of these guys know a thing or two about fantasy football.

The problem with having 10 experts, however, is that you get 10 different opinions. Wouldn't ESPN be better off with just one expert?

Think about it: You have a question, be it about a potential draft choice, a lineup or a possible trade. One ESPN expert seems to indicate one thing, another something else. And that's not to mention what the other eight guys might suggest.

These guys all seem to know what they're talking about, so now you're even more confused than before.

In the end, what have you learned? Nothing - other than not to go to them for advice anymore.

It's interesting to note that multiple participants in the mock draft even provided their own analysis of it. So what was supposed to be a learning process for the readers instead becomes a head-scratching exercise in: Which guy do we trust the most?

Do yourself a favor: When looking for fantasy advice this season, stick with single-source sites. At least then you'll know your information will be coming from the same expert everytime.

And if you don't like it, then change to another single-expert site. It sure beats getting 10 different answers to your one question.
