Fantasy debate: Is Addai still an elite player?

Why You Are Wrong says:

Were you alive last year? Addai HAD Manning and was awful. Now with Brown around I don't understand how he can be a Top 10 running back. Really he's not even top on his team.

Mr. Fantasy responds:

To answer your question: Yes, I was alive last year. But I drafted Randy Moss in the first round, so it was a somewhat painful experience.

I agree that Addai was a huge disappointment last season. And if you want to write him off based on that, that's fine.

But let's not bring Brown into the equation.

Remember when the Colts drafted Anthony Gonzalez in the first round in 2007? We're still waiting for him to have a fantasy impact.

Meanwhile, Reggie Wayne has responded with his two best seasons, and even the ancient Marvin Harrison had more catches than Gonzalez last season.

The point is: The Colts aren't in a rebuilding mode. They didn't have to rush Gonzalez into the lineup, and now maybe he's ready to contribute.

The same goes for Brown. If Addai gets hurt again, maybe Brown will work up a sweat. But if Addai stays healthy - as he generally was two years ago when he accumulated 1,400 yards and 15 touchdowns - the Colts aren't about to have him sit and watch a rookie get experience.

Before suffering a hamstring injury, Addai had four TDs in his first four games last year. He was - and continues to be - the Colts' goal-line back, which is a powerful position to hold on a team with Peyton Manning moving the ball up and down the field.

I consider Addai a solid second-round pick. His numbers have first-round potential, which makes him a great value a round later. Or if you're in "Why You Are Wrong's" league, much later than that.
