With many novels behind her in the science fiction, fantasy and horror genres, Christie Golden adds to her collection with Arthas: Rise of the Lich King. Based on her own time within the world of World of Warcraft and with the assistance of many of the game’s developers, Ms. Golden brings to life one of the most exciting characters players have known about since Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and its expansion pack Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne.
Arthas: Rise of the Lich King
This book relates the life of the Lich King when he was known as Arthas Menethil, the crown prince of Lordaeron and one time paladin of the Silver Hand.
The book opens with a very detailed description of who and where Arthas is now, before the release of the expansion Wrath of the Lich King. The scenery throughout the entire book is very detailed, pulling the reader into the story. Ms. Golden is a talented writer who is able to bring her stories to life.
Though we are taken back to when Arthas is a child, we are taken into his life to learn who he was before he was joined with the orc shaman Ner’zhul. His search for the sword, Frostmourne, will destroy all that he was, just as the Scourge destroyed all that he loved.
In the end, will Arthas give in to the demands of Ner’zhul and share the power of the Lich King with him, or will he take the power into his own hands and claim it all for himself?
The story of the Lich Kin continues in the game World of Warcraft online, on the continent of Northrend.
