NBA fantasy basketball roundup Part I--January 29, 2009

Twelve NBA games last night.  See Part II here.

Pacers get up early, hold on against Bucks at Conseco...With Danny Granger resting an ailing knee, it was the T.J. Ford show...Ford scored a career-high 34 points to lead five Pacers in double figures as Indiana remained undefeated at home in 2009...Dunleavy, Jarrett Jack and Rasho each netted 14 points, and Murphy had an 11 and 13 doubler...luckily, they were playing the Bucks, who were missing Redd and Bogut, so they didn't need too much for the win...Occasionally went for 28 and 8 before fouling out, and Underachiever had 19 and zip for Milwaukee, which led once at 2-0...new starter and reborn fantasy stud Ramon Sessions had 16, 3 and 4, while Ridnour and Luc Richard Whatever had 10 each...the Bucks went 3-for-13 from the arc and were out-boarded 42-31...the Pacers shot 52% from the floor but only 65% from the stripe...Dan Gadzuric was held to one point below his average, resulting in a donut...his replacement, Francisco Elson, exploded for 4 points.

Here's a shocker--Celtics run Kings in Beantown...Boston enjoyed a 40-19 second quarter, and Eddie House (28 points) went 8-for-9 from lalaland as the Celtics cruised...Rondo busted loose for 24, 3 and 9, and Garnett and Big Baby each scored 14...Pierce phoned it in tonight, going 1-for-5 from the floor for 8 points and 8 assists...Kendrick Perkins had a donut in 24 starting minutes and didn't take a shot...Sad-ramento got 22 from John Salmons, 21 and 11 from Jason Thompson and 18 from Kevin Martin in another embarrassing effort...Bobby Brown had 13 off the bench, and Brad Miller had 11 and 5...no one really cares...it wasn't that long ago that Sacramento was one of the scariest teams in the league...now, you just feel sorry for them.
Heat ride big second half, stifle Wizards in Miami...this just in: Call Me Dwayne DID NOT lead Miami in scoring in this game...Wade had 14, 9 and 9, with three steals, and spent the fourth quarter on the bench texting Charles Barkley...Miami's bench took on the scoring load in this one, with Beasley and designated gunner Daequan Cook collecting 16 points each...my boy Udonis had 14, but only 3 rebounds (?), and Chalmers and James Jones had 10 points each...Jamison (21 and 12) and Butler (18, 5 and 6, with 6 turnovers) did what they could for the Wizards, but it wasn't nearly enough...starting center Darius Songaila had 10 points, and that was mostly it...Miami's bench outscored Washington 50-14, and the Wiz were 2-for-13 from the arc...Miami didn't shoot well--39% from the floor--but you don't have to against Washington...just take care of the ball and wait for them to melt down.
Raptors hang gut-wrenching loss on Nets in Joisey...Anthony Parker led six Raps in double figures with 21, 7 and 6, playing like he did in 2007...Jose Calderon was the difference-maker, with 17 and 11, and looks capable of taking Toronto to the playoffs...Chris Bosh went for 18 and 6, a slow night for him, and Don't Call Me Andrea mailed his game in with 8 points and a single rebound...Joey Graham had 15 points on 4-for-4 shooting, while Kapono and Moon went for 10 apiece...the Vince and Devin show was center stage tonight, as Carter went for 27, 10 and 5 and Harris 25, 3 and 10...Harris had an open look at the game-winner and, um, missed...Keyon Dooling had 17 off the bench, and The Good Twin scored 14...Bobby Simmons took a step backward in his Worst Starting Forward in the League competition with Clipper Brian Skinner, with 16 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals.
Knicks handle Hawks in the Gahden...Nate Robinson scored most of his 24 points late, and New York shot 50% from the floor to defeat Atlanta...Lunchbucket had another 17 and 16 doubler, helping my fanasy team, while Selfless Al and Chris Duhon went for 16 apiece...Harrington added 9 boards, and Duhon 11 assists...Q Rich netted 14 points on "only" 10 shots, and Wilson Chandler chipped in with 12 off the bench...I'm going to stop picking on Jared Jeffries, since he rarely shoots the ball and is an I.U. alum...Atlanta got 28 and 7 from Marvin Williams, 26 and 12 from Josh Smith, and 20 and zip from Flip Murray...that's the good news...Joe Johnson had 15 points on 15 shots, and Mike Bibby 5 points on a 2-for-13 shooting exhibition...Essence of Pachulia had 8 points and 10 boards...Smith was a sterling 2-for-10 from the stripe, essentially costing his team the game...you know your defense needs work when you allow the Knicks to shoot 50%.
Detroit puts the ol' sleeper on the T-Wolves in the deep freezer...Sheed led Detroit with a rare 25 and 10 night, and didn't draw a single technical...Bad Chemistry added 19, McDyess had 14 and 10 off the bench, and my boy Rodney Stuckey chipped in with 14, 5 and 6...Tayshaun had a quiet 11 and 5 night, and Rip went 5-for-12 on his way to 11 points...Minnesota came unglued in the fourth, having led after three quarters...Iron Man had 24 and 6 to lead, and R Kevin Love added 17 and 10 off the bench while failing to make the Rookie Show at the All-Star game...weird...Foye had 15, 5 and 5, but Telfair and Craig Smith were held to 8 points each...Ryan Gomes had 10 points and a -9 rating...Detroit enjoyed a 23-13 advantage at the stripe...the Wolves were 2-for-12 from the arc in their own gym..what's up with that?...Detroit seems to play really well when McDyess is on the floor...perhaps he should be starting in the four spot.

As a kid, Bruce Allen was a terrible, myopic basketball player, but admired guys who could play. Armed with an Excel spreadsheet, he plays fantasy...
