The CW’s “Smallville” has been steadily introducing characters who appear in the “Superman” canon. Revisionist takes on The Flash, Green Arrow and Aquaman have all made appearances in recent seasons.

Collider has published some new information on an ambitious installment that’s been shot and is now being promoted. In January, “Smallville” is running a two-hour, TV movie called “Absolute Justice,” which broadens young Clark Kent’s exposure to other super-powered characters even further. The segment, now being aired as a TV movie but originally intended as two one hour installments to be aired during November sweeps, features Hawkman along with Justice Society characters Dr. Fate and Stargirl. The promo, available on YouTube and at Collider, also hints at another character who emits energy rays from a green ring.

You all know that “Green Lantern” goes into production as a very expensive feature film directed by Martin Campbell and starring Ryan Reynolds in April, 2010, right?

The episode was written by DC stalwart Geoff Johns, who was written the comic books “The Flash,” “Teen Titans” and “Green Lantern.” He has also been a writer on “Smallville” and co-wrote the pilot for the TV version of “Blade” with none other than “Blade” “Batman Begins” and “Ghost Rider” scribe David S. Goyer, currently writing, directing and producing ABC’s hit “Flash Forward.”

Michael Shanks plays Hawkman in the episode, along with Brent Strait as Dr. Fate and Britt Irvin as Stargirl.

One vintage superhero who still hasn't made an appearance is the big blue Boy Scout himself.  A new photo of Tom Welling making the rounds shows him with the pentagon-"S" symbol, but in a long black coat that's reminiscent of Neo in "The Matrix" sequels.  And in the "The Matrix Reloaded" there's even a reference to Neo "doing his Superman thing..."

This said to be “Smallville’s” last season. Clearly they intend to go out with a bang.
