Guy Pearce joins 'The Hungry Rabbit Jumps'

Guy Pearce "The Time Machine"

Aussie actor Guy Pearce is set to join the Roger Donaldson-directed revenge thriller "The Hungry Rabbit Jumps." Filming begins in two weeks in New Orleans, according to Production Weekly. Nicholas Cage and January Jones (“Mad Men”) star.

Pearce makes a habit of frequently appearing in off-the-beaten-path indies and art house films, in addition to his more commercial ventures like “LA Confidential,” “The Time Machine” and “The Count of Monte Cristo.” He is currently attached to at least half a dozen projects in pre-production.

According to IMDb, the movie is about a man who enlists the aid of a gang of vigilantes to help even the score after his wife is attacked. IMDb also reports that this is a Hollywood debut for screenwriter Robert Tannen, who does have a German script credit on his resume, “Even Money,” under the name Todlicher Einsatz. The story is credited to Todd Hickey.

Nicholas Cage will be filming his second feature in New Orleans in a comparatively short time period, following his work on the pending “Bad Lieutenant.” New Orleans is also going to be the site of much of the principal photography for Warner Brothers’ upcoming “Green Lantern” comic book adaptation.

New Zealander director Roger Donaldson (he emigrated to New Zealand from Australia in the sixties) has a long resume. He came to international prominence with “Smash Palace” in 1981, and directed Mel Gibson, Anthony Hopkins and unknowns Liam Neeson and Daniel Day-Lewis in “The Bounty” in 1984. In 1987 he forced limo companies in Washington, DC to change their regulations following the release of the superb thriller “No Way Out” with Kevin Costner and Sean Young. He continued to work through the nineties with “Cadillac Man,” “The Getaway” and “Dante’s Peak.” More recently he’s helmed “Thirteen Days,” “The Recruit” and “The Bank Job.”
