Local mom designs stylish reusable bags

Emilie Sloan market totes

Many of us have started taking reusable bags to the grocery store. From PCC bags, to IKEA bags to Trader Joe totes.

Taking your own bag to the grocery store is a great habit, but local mother of three Lisa Murphy was unhappy with the selection of reusable shopping bags available at stores. She wanted something more stylish, practical and cheerful. Being an avid seamstress, she decided to make her own totes that were not only pretty to look at, but also functional, (Seattle) weather proof and could hold a variety of stuff. She then started using her homemade totes to go grocery shopping at her local market and instantly received many compliments. People asked her repeatedly where she got her great tote.

Within a couple of months, Emilie Sloan was created. (The name Emilie Sloan comes from a combination of Lisa's daughters' names, Emilie & Madison Sloan). Lisa went through the process of making the bags in her home sewing room to finding a company to produce the bags, to getting the bags in stores.

There are several designs of totes now carried by many stores, in really fun and modern fabrics. From shopping bags to cosmetic bags, to lunch bags and adorable little wrist clutches and coinlets, which are selling like hot cakes at local boutique Fresh, because they make such great gifts.

The prices range from $15 for a coinlet to $37 for a market tote.
