In what looks to be a waste of tax-payer money, police have arrested and incarcerated New York family rights activist John Murtari again. Murtari wrote a chalk message this morning on the Old County Courthouse in Lyons, to coincide with a meeting of the County Board of Supervisors.
Earlier charges were dropped when Murtari's public defender pointed out that "chalk can't damage" and there was no "intent to damage". The attorney has a motion pending to dismiss all charges from another earlier arrest for similar conduct. See NY family rights chalk writer arrested again.
Murtari is actively engaged in a campaign to get Assemblyman Oaks to take up the cause of family rights. After speaking with Oaks yesterday, Murtari said, "It was clear Mr. Oaks is paying attention to our issues and acknowledges there may be a problem. He is not there yet, but may be moving closer to calling for Legislative hearings on the need for reform."
Murtari is an intelligent and peaceful man, an ex Air Force training pilot who nearly became a priest. He has a son, Dom, 17, with whom he remains close; even after the boy was moved across the country by his mother after the parents divorced.
Murtari has had psychiatric examinations since becoming a family rights activist, and each one has found him to be of sound mind. He was interviewed by film producer Angelo Lobo while on a non-cooperation protest that lead to him being on a feeding tube for 123 days, and appears in the documentary SUPPORT?.
Murtari says the actions of other concerned citizens is making a difference. (Contact info below.) "Your letters and calls about abuses seem to have made an impact," he wrote in the akidsright.org newsletter.
Murtari's next court date is Wednesday, Feb 24th at 8:30 am. His jail address is John Murtari, P.O. Box 477, Lyons, NY 14489

watch 20/20 tonight! divorce wars!
I support Mr. Murtari's right to express his opinions.
I object to his method of doing so.
I question whether those who support him would support similar actions from someone who oppossed his opinion.
I think that if Mr. Murtari is conducting his acts of civil disobeience fully expecting to be arrested and prosocuted for his illegal actions then more power to him! He should however, remember that what is 'right' for one is 'right' for another and unless he stops his current actions he has every reason to expect lot's of other's to activelyy deface public buildings with chalk in the near future. Is this truely what we want?
A waste of taxpayer's money to arrest someone who is writing on public buildings?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!
I propose to you that this is a 'double standard' sort of judgement at best.
I bet you wouldn't think it a waste of taxpayer's money to arrest a pro-life activist who did the same.
Got something to say?
