The Newseum isn’t just for adults. And summer isn’t just for kids. Both adults and children can enjoy reminiscing or learning about the many fascinating newsworthy events that have taken place over the past 500 years. With over five centuries of news history housed within the Newseum’s 14 galleries and 15 theaters, families can enjoy the greatest headlines featuring the most famous people and places throughout the times.

Each of the remaining days of summer through Labor Day, the Newseum is offering their Family Fun Deal to encourage families with children to visit the museum. The Family Fun Deal waives the price of admission for all children up to the age of 18 entering with a paying adult. With so much to see, the Family Fun Deal admission passes are good for two consecutive days allowing families to ensure they visit each of the many exciting exhibits and shows.

Atop the must see list, especially for those aspiring news reporters is the NBC Interactive Newsroom where children and adults can sit in the newscasters chairs behind the desk and play the role of a TV reporter or photographer.

Take the kids back to the 1950s rock and roll era by visiting the newest exhibit, Elvis! His Groundbreaking, Hip-Shaking, Newsmaking Story. The Elvis exhibit chronicles the impact he had on the music industry and pop culture from the 1950s through today. Fans can see his famous Harley Davidson motorcycle, watch a video featuring footage of Elvis from concerts and rehearsals, and view a variety of artifacts on display in the exhibit.

Another exhibit sure to entertain the little ones is First Dogs: Presidential Pets in the White House, which is one of the Newseum’s most popular displays. It house pictures of the many dogs that lived in the White House, belonging to over 23 different presidents and even includes the newest pooch given to President Obama.

For those photography fans, you must walk through the Pulitzer Prize Photographs Gallery which is home to the most comprehensive collection of Pulitzer Prize winning photographs over the past few centuries. Some amazing and incredibly emotional photographs in the gallery include the Marines raising the flag at Iwo Jima, the assassination attempt on President Reagan, and firefighters at the Oklahoma City bombing.

Lastly, an exhibit not to be missed is the 9/11 Gallery which displays the many front pages of newspapers from around the world describing the horrific attacks on the United States and some of the more famous photographs taken early that morning in New York City and outside the Pentagon during and after the attacks.

The Newseum is located in Washington DC on Pennsylvania Avenue. For more information and to plan your visit, see their website.
