Favorite summer toys

As summer chugs along, families often find themselves looking for a new perfect summer toy to keep the troops entertained and happy. Here are some new and tried and true favorites your child is sure to love.

Max Liquidator: This toy that looks like a chunk cut out of your basic floating noodle. It is, however, the world's best squirt gun. It shoots thirty feet or more, is so easy a three year old can operate it and, as one mom at the pool said, "It doesn't look like a gun." They can be purchased at Wal-mart for $5.00 each.

Hand Powered Diggers: HandTrux Toys offers hydrolic powered digging toys that are operated like puppets. Kids put their hands inside and then manipulate the grip to dig. With all the rain we've been getting there's plenty of mud that needs to be moved. These toys are available online for less than $20.

Scooters: If you have a child who hasn't yet reached two-wheeled status, or if you happen to live in an area where riding a bike isn't advised for the less than proficient rider, try the scooter for a substitution. The two-wheeled scooter gives non-bike-riders practice on the same skills required to ride a bike with control over the braking and way closer to the ground. Basic non-motorized models can be purchased at Wal-mart for under $30. Scooters have even become a cool replacement for skateboards, check out this video:

Bubbles: Inexpensive, long lasting and, again, useable by young children. You can even make your own:

Best Bubble Solution

1 cup water
2 tablespoons light karo syrup or 2 tablespoons glycerin
4 tablespoons dishwashing liquid

Mix together and have fun!

This recipe comes from About.com. They also have recipies for fancy bubbles, colored bubbles and make your own bubble wands. Add an exterior wet surface, like a deck or sidewalk, and the bubbles will stay in shape and form mounds of soapy fun.
