New items could soon be added to the menu at the local Starbucks: beer and wine. That's the latest news according to a report by CBS. Three Seattle Starbucks stores are currently running a test launch that includes a new name and removal of the Starbucks logo to see how well the public responds. The stores will be called "15th Avenue Coffee and Tea," and will include scheduled performances of poetry readings and live music, in addition to serving beer and wine. Starbucks, Inc. is contemplating the changes in an effort to combat slow business and weak sales.
So far, reactions have been mixed, especially among parents. Many moms visit Starbucks daily with their kids and don't want to see bottled alcoholic beverages sitting in the cooler. "My teenage daughter goes to Starbucks every weekend to meet her friends and to study, I don't want her to be in an environment where alcohol is served," said one mom. Other patrons think it's great. "Having alcohol as an option will make it a much more comfortable setting to meet and hang out," said one businessman who stops at Starbucks every morning.
Right now, this is just a trial run and there are no immediate plans to include alcoholic beverages at all Starbucks. However, if this new approach is a success, it may potentially expand to all Starbucks stores worldwide.
