A woman claiming to be Jaycee Lee Dugard, a child who was abducted by strangers 18 years ago in South Lake Tahoe, showed up at the Concord Police Department yesterday. This lead to the FBI calling her mother Terry Probyn, who spoke with the woman and was on her way to Concord.
According to this El Dorado County Sheriff press release shown on local blog Claycord.com, it has been confirmed that the woman is in fact Dugard.
Television station KRON 4 reports that a search warrant is currently being served in Antioch on the 1500 block of Walnut Avenue, and that two people, a man and a woman have been arrested in connection with the crime.
The El Dorado Sheriff Department is scheduled to give a press conference at 3 pm.
This story will be updated as new information becomes available.
UPDATE: This sex offender lives at the address of the search warrant.

UPDATE: Live video of search of Antioch house
UPDATE: The couple (58-year-old Phillip Craig Garrido, a registered sex offender, and his wife 55-year-old Nancy Garrido) are being held in Martinez on charges of kidnapping and rape of a child, with a million dollar bail. Jaycee and her mother met in an undisclosed location this morning.
UPDATE: The Mayor of Claycord tells us Garrido has this creepy blog about hearing messages from beyond.
According to local television station CBS 5:
Phillip Garrido was booked on five pending charges -- kidnapping, rape, lewd behavior, sexual penetration and conspiracy; Nancy Garrido was booked on two pending charges of kidnapping and conspiracy, jail officials said.
Phillip Garrido is also a suspect in an on-going elder abuse investigation, according to Antioch police Sgt. Diane Aguinaga.
SF Gate reports:
The couple were arrested after they walked into the police station with Dugard to ask a question, authorities said. They would not say what the question involved, but it apparently aroused the suspicions of a Concord police officer.
The officer ran a criminal history check of Phillip Garrido and found out he was a registered sex offender, authorities said. State records show that he has a conviction for rape by force, and federal records show him serving a stint in federal prison in Leavenworth, Kan., in the 1980s.

Unless she was locked up, she has a lot of explaining to do.
Dr. Pepper,
She has no explaining to do. She was taken at 11 years old, told who knows what, came to believe her circumstance was normal or she just accepted it in order to survive. What a hateful thing for you to say. Shame on you.
Elizabeth Smart not only did not try to escape, she denied who she was when the police found her. Patty Hearst, who was much older when she was kidnapped, changed her name and robbed a bank at gunpoint. This man is severly mentally ill, and she was a helpless child. Who knows what he told her to get her to cooperate. I pray for her and her parents and hope that this madman goes to prison for life.
It's not hateful at all. Rather, her conduct since becoming an adult is hateful. She is 29 years old and she put her parents through years of unnecessary agony. Her poor stepfather had to endue four lie detector tests. Why didn't she do the right thing at her first opportunity? Unless she could not have sought help sooner, she is an accomplice in her own kidnapping. Do you remember Patty Hearst? She was kidnapped too. I this girl has a lot of explaining to do.
Dr. Pepper, neighbors are reporting that Jaycee was never seen. The couple obviously had her in confinement.
Sounds like Dr. Pepper needs some therapy.
Concord police had recently discovered Dugard's whereabouts through their own investigation, but it's unclear what kind of contact they may have had with her before she showed up at the station, Lovell said.
Details about the last 18 years of Dugard's life are still unclear. "She wasn't held captive or anything, it doesn't appear," Lovell said.

"I've gone through hell," Probyn said, noting that investigators and even members of the extended family looked at him suspiciously for months afterward.

She was kidnapped and brutally sexually assaulted for years from the age of 11. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that you don't have to have ropes and chains on someone to keep them "captive". It has been proven time and time again that kidnapping victims become psychologically unable to escape their captors because of the various kinds of abuse they endure.
Thank God that officer was on his/her toes and was paying attention. Unbelievably wonderful news.
Dr. Pepper, "it doesn't appear" That article is the only one reporting that, and even he wasn't sure.
7-up
I could understand that argument if she was a teenager, but a 29 year old women? That argument did not keep Patty Hearst out jail. I guess if you are a victim of a crime, then you have no mental capacity to commit a crime for the rest of your life; because, after all, something bad happened to you in your life. Come on, she made a decision to protect (aid and abet) her kidnappers and let her mother and stepfather live in agony. Nice kid. Her mother and stepfather are the real victims. I bet the police had to pressure her to cooperate.
Lt. Les Lovell of the El Dorado County Sheriff's Department -- I'm sure he is going to lie about the situation.
"Concord police officers first encountered Dugard at a nearby house on Wednesday while they were conducting a separate investigation, Lovell said. Police began to question the woman and something didnt add up, he said.
'Based on really good police work, the Concord police smelled a rat,' Lovell said. Police continued to press the woman, and she eventually revealed her name was Jaycee Dugard.
Officers asked her to come to the Police Department for further investigation and Dugard cooperated, Lovell said."

guess she should get off the hook -- had an abusive past.

Dr P, I never said he lied. I quoted him about whether she had freedom or not.
It appears she may have been forced to bear his children:
The Garridos were arrested Wednesday after they walked into a state parole office in Concord with a woman and two small children, officials with the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation said. Phillip Garrido, a registered sex offender, had been summoned because someone reported suspicious activity involving him and the two children the day before at UC Berkeley, officials said.
"Diligent questioning" and further investigation by state authorities and Concord police revealed that the woman was Dugard and the children were Phillip Garrido's, officials said in a statement.
Dr. P, I spoke with Lt. Lovell who says he was misquoted by the LA paper. Update: examiner.com/x-6741-SF-Family-Examiner~y2009m8d27-Video-Jaycee-Dugard-bore-children-of-sex-offender-abductor
Dr. Pepper,
You are an idiot.
What's to explain? She was a helpless child and was unbelievably
tortured and, of course, scared out of her wits. What Dr. Pepper says is totally unreprehensible!! Shame, shame on you! No one should be put thru what she tolerated, for the sake of her children as well as herself!!! Lock the bastard up and throw away the key, also a little torture would be good for him!
dr.pepper
grow up untill you are kidnapped or know some one who was you have no room to say anything. kidnappers tell small kids anything to get them to trust them and stay. Just like the 2 boys that were taken by me one had been missing for about 6 years and the other about a week but the one that was missing for about 6 years was told all kind of things to get him to stay. So dr.pepper unless you have kids or know some one who has been trew this you need to stop and grow up
Got something to say?
