You may think that I am talking about the exhibit of Terracotta Warriors available at the Houston Museum of Natural Science, but did you know that terra cotta warriors were available in another Houston area attraction?
The Forbidden Gardens, a beautiful garden, cultural, art and historical exhibit located in Katy, Texas features the life of the first Emperor of China. At this beautiful exhibit, museum and attraction a visit will include a walk in the gardens, narrated tour, and both Chinese and English translations for each of the exhibits and their historical and cultural significance. While some exhibits, such as the Emperor’s table and the armory are full size, others give visitors a glimpse into the beauty of early China though scale size models.
Forbidden Gardens exhibits include:
The tomb of the first Emperor of China with a replica of the 6,000 piece warrior army.
Scale size replica of the Forbidden City, home for 500 years to the Imperial family of China.
Scale size replica of Suzhou, the “Venice of China,” and many other replicas of ancient China fromarchitecture to weaponry.
Each exhibit, from full size to miniature replica’s are carefully and masterfully crafted, even down to the smallest details of the individual expressions of the Terra Cotta warriors and the Imperial Guard.
The finding of the original Terra-Cotta warriors is considered to be one of the greatest current day archeological finds and was designated a World Heritage Site in 1987 and museums across the world try to have it included as an exhibit at their location.
Although Time Magazine names the Terra Cotta Warriors in the top 5 exhibits that are a “must see” if you are in the Houston area and have an interest in Chinese culture, art and history, the Forbidden Gardens should also be on your list of “must see” exhibits and museums, whether travelling or living in Houston. Individual as well as group tours are available, during limited times.
