Have you heard of a local competition called Trash to Trees? This annual competition challenges local students from area schools to use recycled or re-purposed items to decorate Christmas trees! This year, 34 school accepted the challenge, allowing students to use their creative talents to make ecofriendly ornaments and decorations.
The Inverness Hotel and Tagawa Gardens, in partnership with Tree by Tree and Radio Disney, is hosting the 2nd Annual Trash to Trees competition.
All this week, students have been decorating their trees in preparation for public viewing and judging. Yes, you are invited to come to view and cast your vote for your favorite tree! (View slideshow of two school decorating trees!) Each tree will also be on sale to the highest bidder with 100% of those proceeds going directly to the school.
Where: The Inverness Hotel - 200 Inverness Drive in West Englewood.
When: December 5th - 13th
Winners of the competition will be posted December 15th. Ten schools will earn cash prizes for their 'trashy creativity' and the remaining schools will be entered into a drawing to win prizes from the sponsors of the competition. Not only is Trash to Trees to benefit local schools, but Tree by Tree will receive a portion of the proceeds to be used to plant sapling throughout Denver this upcoming Spring as part of Mayor Hickenlooper's goal to plant one million trees locally by 2025.
Sponsors of this year's Trash to Trees: Inverness Hotel, Tagawa Gardens, Radio Disney, Air Marketing, 5280, Denver Life, EcoMetro Guide Denver, Boise Cascade, Royal Cup Coffee, Brunzwick Zone XL, Denver Recycles, Denver Botanic Gardens, Wildlife Experience, Denver Museum of Nature and Science and CH2MHILL.
