National hug your kids day July 19, 2010

National Hug Your Kids Day is the 3rd Monday in July - 7/19/10

The 3rd Monday in July is National Hug Your Kids Day, which falls on July 19, 2010.

National Hug Your Kids Day was founded in 2008 by Michelle Nichols, a 25-year sales and business veteran, whose son, Mark, died suddenly at age 8-1/2 from brain cancer in 1998. It is celebrated on the 3rd Monday in July.

Michelle speaks to companies to help their employees be successful at work, family, and life - and it all starts with a hug. "Hugs are fast, free and non-fattening," she says. "A good hug can make your day."

The 2009 holiday was celebrated in 28 states across the U.S. It included 100+ digital billboards in 17 major cities, 25 Gannett online and print events, 6 Major League Baseball Jumbotron announcements, and Hug Your Kids Night at the Reno Aces in Reno, NV.

I'll be seeing my baby girl (OK, she's 21) for the 1st time today since she left for Africa 7 weeks ago. It'll definitely be Hugs Day at my house.

No kids of my own. I'll hug my cats. Maybe think about one of the neighbors' kids, if it seems appropriate. :)
