One of the great things about living in a city like Dallas is the opportunity to take advantage of the mild fall weather and go to an outdoor event.
Although I have put them in order by date, my favorite is definitely the Texas State Fair. If you live in Texas and you have not been to the fair, then make it a priority this year. It's a unique experience. Be sure to make a beeline for the Fletcher corn dog stand. This is where the corn dog was invented and it's better than any other you have ever had.
Second on my list is the Cottonwood Arts Festival in Richardson. It is small, and most of the art is out of my price range, but I love looking, munching on fresh kettle corn, and people watching. The festival is in a park so it is shaded and pleasant and there is a terrific kids area with pottery, plaster and other cool art activities. Cottonwood is also pet-friendly if you have a sociable dog.
The Plano Balloon Festival is one of the kid's favorites. Don't miss the balloon glow as the sun goes down.
