It is good-bye or hello for Sarah Palin?
On the heels of an article written in Vanity Fair which was not even on the stands yet, disparaging Governor Sarah Palin, she announced today that she not only would not be running for re-election as the Governor of Alaska; but that she was also resigning as governor as of July 26, 2009. The Vanity Fair August 2009 issue written by Todd S. Purdum entitled “It Came From Wasilla,” had a connotation of a horror movie of sorts. Referring to the governor as an “it!” “Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness.”
Then with her announcement early this morning Vanity Fair was quick to offer yet another article by same author entitled, “Don’t blame Vanity Fair for the Governor’s resignation”
While she did not give a specific reason for her decision at this time, she said that the transfer of power to Lt. Governor Sean Parnell would take place at the Governor’s Picnic later this month which is to be held in Fairbanks. She said that she had

consulted with her most important advisors, her children. And their decision was unanimous. Did this mean they had their eyes on a stay-at- home Mom who could cook up more fresh batches of moose stew; or did it mean they had eyes on bedrooms in the White House. Or better yet, perhaps they just voted for their MOM.
According to your favor or not of Ms. Palin, you will most likely be interested in what bloggers and news reporters are saying and/or speculating. She was either through with politics stating a drop from her previous 90% rating to 50% and that her political career was over. Or, they were speculating that she was resigning early in order to spend time preparing to run for office of the President in 2012.
In her speech today, she did not indicate that she would be idle. She stated that she wanted to fight alongside of those who believed in freedom, security for our nation, support of our troops and for those who were proud to be Americans. She said she intended to work for those running for those same ideals. But she did not feel that she should do it from the Governor’s Office.
She stated that she wanted to make a positive change outside of government. Which gave rise to the possibility of a television or radio show. She said this decision had been under consideration for sometime. And having made the decision, she said, “Why not do it now?” She also stated that she felt to do so was in the best interest of the state of Alaska, so that they could get back to the business of the state so that the attention would be off of her and her family.
She was quoted as saying, “I cannot stand here as your governor and allow the millions of dollars and all that time go to waste just so I can hold the title of governor.” She stated that she could ride the tide so to speak until the end of her term as a lame duck governor and milk the state for various trips, or personal perks.
Midst more news of infidelity among Republicans, (Ensign and Sanford) this came as a shock to many and everyone is all “ears” to see which direction she will take. Love her or hate her, she has been a formidable figure in the political spotlight since she first accepted John McCain’s invitation to run along side of him. For a while it looked as though he was running second fiddle to her. In the midst of all the extra-marital affairs, and bashing of political opponents with no civility, there are families. Just as any good judge tries to decide what is in the best interest of the child – we should be also be aware of the children in these families. When we hurt others out of meanness and spitefulness – we hurt more than just the recipient. We hurt all those around them as well; and especially the children.
We are seeing daily the attack on the families in the public which is only a small portion of those families through out American who are hurting, and who are desperate in many ways. We see the Gosslins, the Sanfords, the Ensigns, the Jacksons, and the Palins who have children who have been hurt in their homes; but in the public as well. And Americans just eat it up.
Not only was Governor Palin criticized and often attacked by media and characterizations on Saturday Night Live by Tina Fey, her family has withstood many vicious, cruel remarks and accusations even insulting remarks made by national television host Dave Letterman – making savage remarks about her daughter, when he himself, was not married for many years to the mother of his child. Don’t throw rocks Mr. Letterman if you live in a glass house.
Do we enjoy seeing others suffer so that it makes our lives seem better? Or have we just become such a blood thirsty nation that we don’t care to know that Christ said that the greatest of all commandments is to love thy neighbor. We are to love our neighbor as we love ourselves. The scripture also says that it would be better for a millstone to be attached to a person and then thrown into the deepest sea than for them to hurt one of these little ones.
During the previous presidential election, most candidates requested and received consideration that their families were off limits. She and her family were not afforded this. Open season was declared on her and her family – innocent children who were so humiliated. America should bow its head in shame for allowing this to happen to her family – to any family. When a person becomes a public figure through their own choosing, it does not give the world the right to destroy a family. Attack their policies and their politics if you must; but leave the families alone.
The nation will continue to scrutinize her every word and action. She was an unexpected surprise when John McCain chose her has his running mate and she had wide appeal to those who stood for the same principles that she did. She was much admired for the way in which she continued her pregnancy even though she knew her baby would have Downs Syndrome, and she continued the task before her while at the same time stood by and supported her daughter as a single mother. She even had to defend the birth of her son; in that wild rumors were that he was not her son, but her grandson.
Garnering larger crowds than did John McCain and her down-home demeanor and her straightforward manner won her many supporters while she was denigrated by others. During that election, I think we saw the dirtiest side of politics. Was it because she was a Republican? Was it because she was a woman? Was it because that was a political tactic taken right out of the pages of Saul Alinsky’s book – where his tactic was to attack, attack, attack – and discredit, discredit, discredit. Did she receive the overflow of the malicious attacks against former President Bush?
Or was it because she was a threat – or was it because she had been successful in every job she had held while at the same time being a wife and mother? She came on the scene unpretentious and ready to help win the election for the Republicans and she was vilified. She boldly stood on her principles of faith and did not ride the fence about where she stood regarding
her religion, her faith in God, her belief in the power of prayer and her dependent walk with Christ. People across the US identified with her in many ways that was never the case with others; especially male politicians.
The negative comments are already piling up on the site above and you will have the opportunity to express yours; but let us remember what older folks were taught when they were children – the Golden Rule – put yourself in her place and ask yourself if what you say about her and her family you would want said about you and yours.
It is so sad to see our once gentle, loving caring nation become so vile, mean, and vicious. Where have the principles of America gone? Perhaps they are gone along side common decency, courtesy, and respect. We can have our own political views, support our own candidates, and we have the freedom of speech – that is if we say the right thing – but we have forgotten
that “Words fitly spoken are like apples of gold in pictures of silver.” We have forgotten, if we were ever taught, that there is One who will judge every idle word and that “what goes around comes around.”
Psalm 19:14
May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.
Will she now fade into the Alaskan sunset; or will she regroup and come out fighting again in the pursuit of a higher office or will she work behind the scenes to see her ideal of a greater America; or will she simply retire and once again be a soccer Mom? We, however, are sure that this is not the end of the story?
