In response to Thursday's protests on Capitol Hill, Nancy Pelosi sent this email to her supporters. It is the definition of political doublespeak, rife with misleading statements like:
“Rather than creating a ‘government takeover of health care,’…America’s Affordable Health Choices Act…will expand enrollment in private insurance by an estimated 6 million Americans.”
Someone please explain to Nancy that mandating all Americans buy a certain kind of insurance from certain government-approved providers is a “government takeover of health care.” It doesn’t matter if she then calls those companies “private.”
That’s like saying Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are private because they're owned by individual shareholders. We all know Congress calls the shots. And, wow, has that worked well.
Does she really think we're this stupid?
The answer is yes.
But it gets much worse. Regarding any state that chooses to exercise its Tenth Amendment rights by nullifying ObamaCare, Nancy had this to say:
A state is free to refuse the support and refuse to assist the federal government in administering the program, but Congress can authorize the federal government to administer the program on its own. Thus, Congress cannot force a state to administer a health insurance exchange, but it can authorize the federal government to administer such an exchange in any state that declines to do so. [Emphasis added]
So, even in states like Arizona, Florida, Alaska, and others, where voters may choose to reject her federal takeover, Pelosi is claiming that Congress has the constitutional authority to “administer” the program anyway.
And where do you suppose she will get the money for that? No doubt at gunpoint from the very voters that have already rejected the program.
There is only one word to describe this kind of self-righteous, nanny state arrogance: Chilling.

Let's talk who the real idiot is here! Pelosi has no more concern about what she's doing to the American public than she does for the mud on her shoes, except that she would take more care with her shoes! This is all about "winning" and nothing else. Idiot Pelosi is a very dangerous person in our government!
While the actions of government might not be perfect, and it often is not, no matter which party is in control, making a step toward insuring more Americans cannot be a bad policy. A step to advance healthcare in the country will allow Congress to build on this policy and make changes that make the program better and cheaper in the future. We have been stalling for the past 15 years to institute a "national" healthcare regime and how much money have tax payers already paid in the form of compulsory hospital visits to those who are uninsured, and how many illnesses might have been stopped and corrected before their conditions escalated to this position. While it may be expensive, in the long run it may be cheaper as Americans in general will be healthier and more productive in the workplace. And while we are trying to compete with increased international competition, isnt it important that we are healthy. I am not saying we should become Europe but we could learn some things from them.
Chad, that logic applies equally well to the Mafia providing "protection to small neighborhood businesses." What you miss is that you are starting from an invalid position, that is, that the federal government has the right and the constitutional authority, to be involved in healthcare whatsoever. The desirability of the "end" that you see is only accomplished by ignoring the means by which it is achieved. In this instance, the means is the abandonment of constitutional government in favor of "results" you desire. What happens when some other wild-eyed crazy is in control and decides to do something like require the recitation of the Lord's Prayer in all public schools? Will you suddenly begin shouting about how that is "unconstitutional". On what basis will you say such a thing when you have declined to care about the constitutionality of ObamaCare? Health care is a legitimate subject for state or local governments but is simply beyond the scope of congress's authority.
What we should have learned from Europe is that their system DID NOT WORK! All this bunk about being more competitive by being healthy -- just because there is a healthcare debacle out there does not mean people are going to change their ways of life, unless, of course, the government intends to step into our lives even more and sit at our dinner tables! This is a costly, costly piece of nothing and will end up bankrupting this country even more -- but, hey, we were also promised that the stimulus bill wouldn't add to unemployment. Can we say "MORE THAN 10%?" And the problem with it MAYBE being cheaper in the long run -- we have thousands of people unemployed and we can't wait until the long run -- it is TOO COSTLY NOW!
Examiner Reader says:
"What we should have learned from Europe is that their system DID NOT WORK!..."
you do realize that Europe is a BUNCH of countries all with different governments and healthcare systems, don't you? What you just said makes as much sense as
"What we should have learned from The Americas is that their system DID NOT WORK! "
