Fimian slams Connolly
Virginia Congressional candidate Keith Fimian (R-11) recently made a statement regarding the attempts to revamp health care by the federal government. Mr. Fimian directed his comments at the man who currently holds the seat he is trying to win in November.
“With the news that initial unemployment claims have surged 12 percent nationally in the past two weeks, residents of the 11th District are asking why Gerry Connolly is still more focused on ramming a trillion dollar healthcare bill through Congress by any means necessary, rather than working to enact policies to put Americans back to work and get our economy moving again,” Fimian said.
“Not only does Gerry Connolly have the wrong priorities, he is proving once again that he does not have the slightest understanding how jobs are created or how economies grow. The healthcare plan he seeks to enact, and the numerous new taxes and tax increases it contains, will deal a crippling blow to new job creation for years to come,” Fimian added.
“During such difficult economic times, the last thing we need to do is raise taxes. But Connolly wants to impose a litany of new taxes, including taxes on employer provided health plans and a new Medicare tax on capital gains that would push the capital gains rate from 15 percent this year to 22.9 percent in 2011. That is a formula for killing economic recovery.
“If we want to spur job creation, the last thing we need to do is reduce the resources Americans have to invest in creating jobs by raising capital gains taxes,” Fimian said. “The economic policies of Gerry Connolly and other Washington politicians are an objective failure. We need new leadership in Congress. We need new leaders who will make economic growth and creating a business friendly environment the top priority.”
Fimian kicks off Prince William County campaign
On Saturday Mr. Fimian hosted over 100 supporters at Giuseppe’s Italian Grill in Haymarket to officially kick off his Prince William County campaign. Prince William County Board of Supervisors Chairman Corey Stewart made a few remarks to start the event.
“2008 was the pinnacle for Democrats and the low point for Republicans. There was one guy in the 11th District, which is a tough district, to have the nerve and the guts to stand up and run for an open seat against a Democrat who was a Fairfax County Board Chair, and that was Keith Fimian,” Stewart said.
Fimian addressed his decision to run and the necessity of electing people to Congress who have actually created jobs and are committed to reducing taxes and spending, balancing the federal budget, and preventing career politicians from enacting more budget-busting federal programs like the health care bill currently being considered in Congress.
“It was great to see so many enthusiastic folks from Prince William County taking time out on a Saturday afternoon in February to help me kick off my campaign,” Fimian said. “This great turnout is a testament to how fed up voters are with career politicians like Gerry Connolly and the kind of tax, borrow, and spend policies he supports in Congress.”
Fimian minute is launched
In an effort to speak directly to voters and allow them to correspond with the candidate via YouTube, Mr. Fimian has launched a series of updates called the “Fimian minute”. You can keep track of it here or sign up to receive it in your email here.
“One look at Washington will tell you that most politicians can talk for minutes on end without really saying anything,” Fimian said. I kept these snippets short because people want to know clearly where candidates stand without the fluff and obfuscation many use to mask their real positions on the issues, or lack thereof.”
