Herrity doubles up on Fimian in new poll

The race to challenge Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA) in the 11th Congressional district just got a little more interesting.  Republican Pat Herrity released an internal poll from the Tarrance group today claiming a 42%-21% lead over his primary opponent Keith Fimian.

“Pat Herrity strongly dominates the primary at every level - seniors, very conservative voters, pro-life voters, and habitual Fox watchers,” observed David Sackett of the Tarrance Group.  “Herrity's advantage is not simply driven by his name ID advantage, as he is beating Fimian by +16 points among those Republicans who know both and those Republicans who have an impression of both candidates.”

The poll also indicates that the race is far from over with 37% undecided.  However, with a primary date of June 8th rapidly approaching, time is running out to close the gap.

In an email to supporters Mr. Herrity stated, “Those polled cited my conservative values, my experience and my chance at beating Connolly in November as reasons they would vote for me in June.”

“A survey conducted by Tel Opinion Research of all VA-11 voters found that only 42% of voters approve of 'the job Gerry Connolly is doing as your congressman.'  And that was before Connolly voted for the $1 trillion, job-killing healthcare bill.  In a head-to-head match-up in that pre-healthcare survey, I was within 5 percentage points of Connolly.  The next Republican candidate was 12 points behind.”

Tim Edson, campaign manager for the Fimian campaign responded in a statement to the Washington Examiner.  “Voters aren't looking for another career politician; they are looking for a leader like Keith Fimian with real world experience creating jobs and balancing budgets to take a principled stand in Congress,"he said.

Herrity concluded, “It is clear we can win in November. But the race is young and we must first win in June.”

I think Fimian would be better so far. I have researched both Republican candidates and Herrity is not conservative enough.

I used to work in the palatial Herrity building in Fairfax County Govt center named after Pat's daddy. It is a huge and opulent place, and made me glad I wasn't paying taxes there. The Herrity's are Fairfax County political royalty.

I don't think we need any more of the political patronage class in Congress. Fimian is a CPA and a CEO, knows how to create jobs and the work it takes to earn the dollars the Federal government loves to appropriate and squander.

This poll seems suspect. Herrity keeps claiming he's never voted to raise taxes, which is provably untrue. he voted with a bunch of Democrats to raise Fairfax County's property tax rate from 92 cents per $100 to $1.04. Look it up, it's a fact. Fimian is a straight shooter, as his "Fimian Minutes" on his website demonstrate. Check them out. We don't need any more second-generation career politicians.
