Zynga's new Treasure Isle combines island tending, farming, and treasure hunting

Facebook games powerhouse, Zynga, have just released a brand new game titled Treasure Isle.  The best way to think of this game is a treasure hunting and collection game with the ability to farm and decorate on your own island.  Treasure Isle is clearly a hybrid game of Treasure Madness, Island Paradise, and FarmVille.

Treasure Isle starts everyone out with a carefully crafted newbie experience that walks players through the various mechanics of the game.  Players start out by digging away at an island, one square at a time.  Each dig requires action points which deplete and regenerate over time.  Digging can uncover coins, a collectible item, XP, food items, and other treasures.  Food items are used to regenerate action points and can also be purchased for Island Cash (the game's paid currency) or received from friends as gifts.

Treasure Isle gives every player their own "home isle".  On this isle, there is a conventional farming game, in which food can be planted.  Remember, this food can be used to regain precious action points so more treasure can be dug up!  The island also has other FarmVille decorating standards, just like the ability to buy animals, trees, outdoor foliage, decorations, and other things.

A neat concept is the idea of gems.  Gems can be harvested from the gem tree on your home isle, and players are assigned a random color.  To unlock some areas on the treasure map, you need a particular gem to cross.  Gems are giftable from friends, so if you need a purple gem and your gem color is green, you will have to work together with friends to get the gems that you need to unlock areas.  The home isle appears like it will be expanded upon, and the ability to make it larger is set as "coming soon" in the market.

The main objective in Treasure Isle is to complete maps by digging up each square on each isle, and uncover collectibles.  Collections are managed through a screen that allows you to see your progress and add certain collectibles to your wish list so friends can send you them.  Completing a whole map of islands will unlock a new map, and there appears to be two maps available right now.  Raising your level unlocks new items in the shop and new islands.

This game has a high level of polish, a lot of fun in the first new user experience, and shows a lot of promise just like other Zynga games.  It just launched today, so try it out and start the level race against your friends today!

The game runs the players off. Once you run out of energy, you're done playing. Can't get my friends to play and share then and you're on your own. Game becomes awful real quick...

The issue with running out of energy is a valid point, but the team at Zynga seems to be adjusting the chance of finding fruit so that you find it more often. Since fruit can help replenish energy, that translates to longer sessions of play each time you sit down.

Plus, a big key is increasing the number of neighbors you have, as they can share fruit that they find with you, as well as send you fruit as a free gift.

I think we'll find that the game will be getting adjusted very often as the developers listen to user feedback, and we'll see user communities like the one at www.TreasureIsleTracker.com popping up with tips, strategies, and ways to find more neighbors.

All in all, I'd say give it a second chance -- there are already a bunch of new islands, and the game is only a week old!

    Thanks!

the game has potential to be fun, however running out of energy is def an issue, once your out, your done for awhile, and it is still so new, that not enough people are playing it to gain bonus from anyone.

We need to be able to use our own farm to replenish energy with fruit we have grown. So far I only have two little plots with fruit growing why can't i dig more patches so that i have a good supply of fruit through my own hard work. The game won't allow me to farm my own land i just have two little plots. There should be more activity on our own isle to make energy. We should have the ability to expand our isle too.

I'm on level 8 and need a purple gem to get further. My one neighbour palying with me can't gift me a purple gem so my game playing is effectivly over. How rubbish is that? I was really enjoying it...

I'm deleting it today. I found it to be boring and mindless. There is no point to it and it's not fun.

I am frustrated...I have not been able to load this game for about 3 days. I have emailed technical support and problem has not been resolved. It looks like others are having the same issue. Does anybody have any suggestions?
