Zynga's popular mob game Mafia Wars has released a whole new way to play - text messaging on your phone! While players could always receive status updates about their mafia via SMS, now the game will allow players to interact and actually play with text messaging! This is a welcome addition for those of you who just can't get enough Mafia Wars. Here is a quick guide on how to play Mafia Wars on your phone.
Signing up
To sign up to play Mafia Wars on your cell phone, you need to visit this site. You simply need to enter your mobile number in and register. Once you've signed up you'll receive instructions on how to play, but we have those here for you! Just for signing up, you currently get a free Dead Ringer gun (45 attack, 36 defense). You can subscribe to get the free gun and then cancel if you wish.
How to play Mafia Wars via SMS
To actually play Mafia Wars, you have to send texts to MAFIA (62342) with different commands. Playing via text messages means that you send and receive a TON of text messages, so we highly recommend you have an unlimited texting plan if you wish to play Mafia Wars on your cell phone.
The basic commands are as follows:

| A | Assist a Mafia member on a job |
| B | Bank balance in your current city |
| C | Collect money from your New York properties |
| D+amount | Deposit the specified amount into the bank in your current city (example: D 100) |
| F | Fight someone on your fight list |
| FF | Fight your last opponent again |
| H | Heal yourself in the hospital |
| J | Do a job (only New York and Cuba jobs are supported) |
| JJ | Do your last job again |
| PE | Purchase energy refill (costs 10 reward points) |
| PS | Purchase stamina refill (costs 10 reward points) |
| R | Retaliate against the last person who attacked you |
| S | Get your vital stats |
| W+ amount | Withdraw the amount from your bank in your current city (Example: W 100) |
| X | Pause alerts for the next 3 hours |
You can also customize what time of day your texts can be sent, a maximum amount to be received in a day, and customize these alerts to only alert you for things you want to know about.
How to stop receiving Mafia Wars text messages
To stop receiving text messages from Mafia Wars, send STOP to MAFIA (62342). You can re-enable these at any time.
