Built by thousands of volunteers in 1993, Mt. Trashmore's Kids Cove park is going to be undergoing long-term, new renovations in the near future.

The City of Virginia Beach plans to modernize the park to make it more safe and accessible for children with disabilities.

The general public, especially parents with children, are invited to attend an open informational meeting on October 15 at 7pm, which will be held at Kempsville Recreation Center Theater.

At the meeting, you will be able to preview the plans and phases that the popular playground will undergo. You will also have an opportunity to weigh in and cast your opinion on the future of Kids Cove.

The first phase will include building three new distinct play areas with rubber surfaces: a swing area, a climber area, and a general play area. The goal is to fully meet the guidelines of the Americans with Disabilities Act, which is not possible without creating anew. However, during construction, the original Kids Cove playground will be available for use.

The playground will also be enhanced with four new picnic shelters, walkways, and new landscaping.
